Prep Roundup: Honkers, Falcons dominate
Jake Johnson tossed six shutout innings, Brandon Rader went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and the Yuba College baseball team wrapped up its season with a 7-4 Bay Valley Conference victory over Napa at home on Thursday.
Brandon Pope went 2 for 4, Chris Stocker was 2 for 5 and Joe Garcia hit a two-run double in the win for the 49ers (12-20, 8-16).
Tyler Osborne threw a scoreless ninth to notch the save.
HIGH SCHOOL
BASEBALL
Yuba City 10, Woodland 2
Senior Tyler Olson had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate and the Honkers took game two of this three-game series at Clark Field in Woodland.
Yuba City (17-4, 10-1) will go for the sweep tonight at Winship Field.
Olson knocked in five runs and doubled twice for the Honkers, while Aaron Byers finished 3 for 3. Junior Zach Oakley picked up the win on the mound, going five innings.
River Valley 17, Inderkum 7
The Falcons won by the 10-run rule for the third straight game, completing the three-game sweep over the Tigers.
Cameron Olson was 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two doubles and Ryan Johnson chipped in with a 3-for-4 effort. River Valley (15-7, 9-3) pounded out 20 hits as a team.
Jake Phillips, Robert Hudson and Cameron Boomgaarden all went 2 for 4. Austin Spencer, Derek Zaragoza and TJ Dove each had two hits a piece as well with Dove picking up two RBIs.
The Falcons JV team fell 5-3. Michael Wood was 1 for 2 with two RBIs for the Falcons.
GIRLS SOCCER
Faith Christian 9, Global Youth Charter 1
The Lions are one win away from a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League title.
Sarah Hall scored four goals and added two assists in the Lions' win on Thursday. If Faith (9-6-1, 6-1) beats Sacramento Country Day next week, the Lions will clinch the league championship.
Annie Reimers, Alex Arnold, Angela West, Lacy Bicknell, and Abbie Rollins all scored goals for the Lions. Coach Robert Ripley said Corrisa Olmstead and Morgan Trimble played well defensively.
BOYS TENNIS
Live Oak 9, Mercy 0
The Lions swept the Warriors in nonconference action, winning all their matches in straight sets.
At No. 1 singles, Pardeep Cheema won 6-2, 6-0. Other singles winners were Andrew Avalos (6-0, 6-0), Parjinder Toor (6-1, 6-2), Daljot Singh (6-0, 6-0), Edgar Yanez (6-0, 6-0) and Manvir Chahal (6-1, 6-0).
Cheema and Avalos won in doubles 8-1, as did the tandem of Toor and Singh (8-0).
Wheatland 8, Colusa 1
Top-seeded Steffan Wagman won his singles match 6-1, 6-3 and the Pirates took advantage of three forfeits in a nonleague win at home.
Theo Lepeau (6-0, 6-0), Cameron Bushling (6-1, 6-1), Derek Zepp (6-1, 6-0) and Josh Petersen (6-1, 6-2) also won their singles matches for Wheatland.
Lepeau and Bushling won their doubles match 8-4 for the Pirates (15-1, 5-1).

The Panthers upped their mark to 23-0 on the season with a nonleague victory over the defending Northern Section Division III champion Trojans in a battle of unbeatens.
Tyler Wells went 2 for 3 with a double and Dylan deWit was 2 for 3 with two doubles to lead the way for Maxwell.
JV SOFTBALL
Wheatland 12, Sutter 2
Emily Hardman hit a home run and a triple and the Pirates improved to 14-1 on the season and 6-0 in BVL play.
JV BASEBALL
Sutter 17, Wheatland 5
Trenton McDaniel was 3 for 3 with three runs for the undefeated Huskies (21-0, 8-0).
