Prep Roundup: L.O. captures section
The Live Oak tennis team delivered.
Coach Greg Sanchez and his Lions edged Orland 5-4 in the Northern Section Division II team tennis finals on Wednesday.
"It got tight there in the end, but they pulled it out," Sanchez said.
After getting singles victories from Alora Sutcliffe (3-6, 7-5, 7-5), Fermina Chavez (6-2, 7-5), Melissa Anderson (6-1, 6-0) and Kayla Harris (6-0, 6-1), the Lions found themselves in a tight spot during doubles play.
Orland took the first two doubles matches, but Anderson and Lucero Topete came through in the third and final doubles match, 6-3, 6-4.
The win was one of revenge and opportunity.
Live Oak (17-2) fell to Orland 5-4 earlier in the year, and the victory matches the Lions up with Pleasant Valley next week for an opportunity to play in NorCals.
The Lions will play in the individual section matches this weekend.
