Prep Roundup: Marysville softball gets big win over Dixon
In a big game, the Marysville High softball team came up huge.
Ashten Welch pitched a two-hitter, Tressa Arostegui went 4 for 4 with an RBI and the Indians rolled past Dixon 11-0 on Wednesday in a contest between the two top teams in the Golden Empire League.
"That kept us in the hunt for the league title," Indians coach Maurice Clavelle said about the road win.
Marysville (11-5, 6-1) hosts the Rams at home on Tuesday.
Marissa Clavelle went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Danielle Ferrari was 1 for 3 with an RBI and McKenzie Krause was 2 for 3 with three RBIs for the Indians, who belted out 12 hits in the five-inning, mercy-rule win.
Lindhurst 12, Capital Christian 2
Breanna Fitz was 3 for 4 with four RBIs, Jamie Mahoney was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and the Blazers rolled past the Cougars in a GEL game at home.
Rachel Zucco was 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Adrianna Alaniz was 2 for 2 with an RBI for her first two hits of the season for the Blazers (9-10, 5-5).
BASEBALL
Faith Christian 7, Country Day 1
Chris Harmon went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored to help lift the Lions to a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League win at home.
Evan Treanor finished 2 for 3 with a pair of steals and sophomore Sam Ithurburn struck out nine in six innings of work to earn the win for Faith Christian (2-8, 2-4).
GIRLS SOCCER
Faith Christian 7, Country Day 1
Sarah Hall scored four goals and assisted on three more to lead the Lions to a SMAL win over Sacramento Country Day.
Annie Reimers added a goal, Alex Arnold and Lacy Bicknell had a goal and an assist each and Angela West played well defensively for the Lions (7-6-1, 4-1).
TRACK & FIELD
Yuba City boys top Woodland
Bernell Barmore took first place in the 110-meter hurdles (15.1 seconds) and the triple jump (43.1 feet) and the Honkers topped visiting Woodland 88.5 to 42.5.
Jo an Fernandez won the 800 (2:07.6) and Greg Geraldo took first in the 3200 (12:18.5). Sophomore Davis Harper won the shot put (40-8) and the Honkers took first in the 400 relay (45.7) and 1600 relay (3:47).
Niyia Sims won the 800 (2:41) and 1600 (5:54) for the Honkers' girls varsity team. Reann Magill took first in the 400 (1:14) and 300 hurdles (59.8) and three Honkers (Holly McAllister, Kate Aldrige and Niyia Sims) tied for first place in the 3200, according to coach Mike Buzbee.
For the JV boys, Ben Starkey won the discus (88-0) and David Lee won the long jump (17-1).
