Prep Roundup: Wheatland softball clinches BVL title
The Wheatland High softball team sealed the deal on Tuesday — a Butte View League title, and going undefeated to boot.
The Pirates mercy-ruled Winters 10-0 at home thanks to Tara McIntyre's and Talia Rios' 3-for-3 days at the plate. McIntyre hit a double and a triple, Rios knocked a double and Mikayla McLanahan hit a home run.
Maggie Ulman and Randi May, who pitched the first four innings, also went 2 for 3 for Wheatland (17-8,10-0).
East Nicolaus 10, Williams 0
Amanda Taylor struck out six while tossing a no-hitter as the Spartans remained undefeated in Mid Valley League South play with a victory at Williams.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Katelin Evans went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Alexis Smith hit a two-run triple in the win for East Nicolaus (13-9, 7-0).
Colusa 3, Live Oak 2
Tiffany Friel struck out 13 while tossing a one-hitter as the Redskins edged the Lions in eight innings in an Sacramento Valley League contest in Live Oak.
Ashleigh Biggs went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Friel went 2 for 4 with two runs to lead the way offensively for Colusa (32-1, 9-0).
BASEBALL
Marysville 9, Mesa Verde 5
The Indians defeated Mesa Verde despite committing seven errors on the road.
Chad Perry tossed eight strikeouts and allowed just one earned run, while Derrick Brown went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and Cody Childers hit a home run for Marysville (15-7, 12-2).
Lindhurst 7, West Campus 2
The Blazers took down West Campus at home after Erick Tallman struck out seven and Ricky Carns and Andrew Sutton each went 2 for 3.
Lindhurst (8-10-1, 6-5-1) has four games left to play and is fighting for the third spot in the GEL.
Valley Christian 8, Faith 2
Blake Lavin had 10 strikeouts, but it wasn't enough as Valley topped Faith Christian (3-10, 3-6) in a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League game at home.
Chris Harmon and Lavin scored the two runs off steals and a single by Sam Ithurburn.
Wheatland 7, Winters 4
Nolan West struck out seven and allowed two hits in 62⁄3 innings to help lift the Pirates to a BVL victory over Winters at home.
Justin Bragg hit an RBI double and Dan Hernandez went 1 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored to provide the offense for Wheatland (12-8, 7-3).
East Nicolaus 9, Williams 3
Kyle Bolla went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Everett Willey finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and the Spartans remained perfect in MVL-South play with a victory at Williams.
Joel Wilson was 2 for 5 with an RBI and Kevin Logsdon went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in the win for East Nicolaus (10-4, 5-0).
Colusa 20, Live Oak 1
Tyler Martin went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs to help lift the Redskins past the Lions in a SVL game in Live Oak.
The game was called after four innings due to the 10-run rule.
Luke Corriea was 2 for 3 and David Goodman hit a double in the win for Colusa (10-10, 6-3).
Tony Montes had the lone hit for Live Oak (0-13, 0-9).
TENNIS
Marysville 4, Delhi 3
Jaime Hurdt won her No. 1 singles match 6-4, 7-5 and the Indians opened the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoffs with a win at Delhi.
Also winning for Marysville were Lennox Jacobson and Terry Prince (6-2, 6-2), Annie Lin and Debbie Lor (6-2, 6-2) and Courtney and Michelle Ngai (6-3, 6-2).
The Indians will play at Placer High in Auburn on Monday in their second round matchup.
Wheatland 9, Colusa 0
Wheatland wrapped up its regular season with a sweep in Colusa.
Steffan Wagman (6-1, 6-3), Theo Lepeau (6-1, 6-0), Cameron Bushling (6-0, 6-0), Josh Petersen (6-3, 6-3) and Anthony Lee (6-2, 6-0) all picked up singles victories. Lepeau and Bushling won 8-6, and James Borrego and Jeff Phavong won 8-4 in doubles for Wheatland (16-1, 5-1), which also picked up two forfeits.
JV SOFTBALL
Marysville 11, Wheatland 8
Mackensey Pike went 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs to help lift the Indians past the Pirates in a nonleague contest.
Morgan Cowen-Fayter went 3 for 4 with a home run as well for Marysville (13-10).
Megan McMullen was a perfect 4 for 4 for Wheatland (15-2).
