Prep Roundup: Pirates avoid Sutter sweep
Wheatland baseball found some redemption on Friday, rolling Sutter High 13-2 on the road.
Dan Hernandez went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Michael Woods, Nolan West and Justin Bragg all went 2 for 4 and the Pirates put themselves back in the Butte View League title hunt.
Bragg hit a double, a triple and drove in two runs on his birthday to help power Wheatland (11-8, 6-3), while Dylan Russell went 3 for 4 and a was a home run away from the cycle for Sutter (11-8, 6-3).
The win came two days after the Huskies beat the Pirates 7-6.
Sutter JVs cruised 22-1 over Wheatland to stay undefeated on the year.
Jason Suleski went 2 for 2 with a home run and five RBIs, while Brad Bonnenfant went 2 for 4 and Franklin Tarke went 2 for 3 with two doubles for Sutter (22-0, 9-0).
Valley Christian 3, Faith Christian 0
Blake Lavin struck out six and allowed only three hits, but the Lions (4-9, 4-5) were held hitless in a Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League loss to perennial power Valley Christian.
Yuba City 9, Woodland 1
Tyler Olson pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 3 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs to lead the Honkers to a series sweep of the Wolves at home.
Zack Rocha was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Blake Parks went 2 for 4 for Yuba City (18-4, 11-1), which will face rival River Valley in a three-game, Tri-County Conference series next week.
Hamilton 10, Biggs 4
Adam Swanson and Andrew Perez were both 2 for 4 for the Wolverines (10-4), who fell at home after scoring three runs in the first inning.
Pierce 13, St. Bernard's 7
The Bears scored 12 runs in the sixth inning to win their opening-round game in the Ft. Bragg Rotary Tournament.
Taylor Cabral was 3 for 5 with 3 RBIs and Hayden Kalfsbeek and Chris Tapia were both 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Pierce (8-10).
Colusa 12, University Prep 4
Jacob Wright was 2 for 5 with four RBIs, Luke Corriea went 2 for 4 for the Redskins at the Shasta Lake Tournament.

East Nicolaus 6, Esparto 0
Amanda Taylor was 2 for 3 with a double and pitched a complete-game shutout for the Spartans.
Erika Lehman, Alexis Smith and Ana White also went 2 for 3 with a double for East Nicolaus (22-0, 9-0).
