Prep Roundup: Yuba City baseball sweeps doubleheader

Pierce blanks Delta; River Valley falls

Jake Stassi and Ryan Pope roped a home run each in the Yuba City High baseball team's 7-2 victory over Bear River at the Surewest Easter Classic on Monday.

Stassi's hit the three-run home run in the fourth inning and Pope's was a solo home run in the fifth. Raul Lozano went 2-for-3 with a double.

The Honkers also defeated Vista Del Lago 3-0. Sam Kuykendall earned the win from the mound with 12 strikeouts. Quentin Rocha and Seth Davis each went 2-for-3 and Stassi hit a double for Yuba City (10-0), who face Ponderosa at 6 p.m. today in the championship.

The Yuba City JV team spilt its games to open the tournament. The Honkers topped El Camino 5-4 and fell to Whitney 12-7.

Aaron Beyers led the team, going 4-for-4 with a home run, while Justin Peterson went 4-for-4 in the opener. Jake Cormier went 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

Pierce 10, Delta 0

Jake Driver went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Ottie Harris tallied two hits and three RBIs to help boost the Bears to a home victory.

Pierce moves to 5-3 overall.

Vallejo 2, River Valley 0

Josh Campos smacked a double in the Falcons' loss on the first day of the River City Classic.

River Valley (5-2) is scheduled to play two games today, weather permitting.

JV SOFTBALL

Yuba City 5, Marysville 0

Lauren Ashburn got the win from the circle with six strikeouts.

Alex Wenham went 2-for-3 for Yuba City (4-11).

FROM THE WEEKEND:

River Valley wins Redding Tournament

The Falcons went 6-1 at the Anderson Cup Classic in Redding over the weekend and took home first place after beating Foothill 9-2 in the championship.

Haley Shelton finished the tournament with two home runs and Rachel Quinn was 10-for-19 with a home run.

Alex Tanner had 10 hits, Courtney Smith tallied nine and Nicole Robinson finished with 8 for River Valley (11-2).

Smith pitched 26 innings, allowed four runs and recorded 53 strikeouts with only three walks. She was awarded the MVP pitcher award.

Quinn pitched 15 innings with 17 strikeouts. The entire team earned a defensive award.

Yuba City takes third at

River City Classic

Marie LaBouyer went 6-for-13 with three doubles and a triple. Andrea Hazel finished with seven hits including a pair of doubles and a triple.

Jacqueline Van Ruiten tallied five hits and Aleah Thomas scored six runs. Jordan Thomas went 3-0 from the circle while Shelby Tausch went 1-1 for the Honkers.
