Prep Roundup: Indians upset Sutter
Ashton Welch's 10 strikeouts combined with the Indians' flawless fielding boosted the Marysville High softball team to a 4-1 upset over host Sutter on Tuesday afternoon.
Tressa Arostegui and Welch each got a hit and McKenzie Kraus smacked a double. Defensively, Jocelyn Talosig threw out two runners trying to steal second while Taylor Marozin and Danielle Ferrari made key plays in the outfield for Marysville (2-1).
Courtney Gravel, Jolene Graham, Kelli Ziegenmeyer and Sami Prosser each got a hit for the Huskies in their season opener.
Lindhurst 6, San Juan 1
Morgan Thome went 1-for-3 while Jordan Stanaland went 1-for-2 with two RBI's. Ashley Halcomb and Alyssa Jones both hit a pair of doubles each for the Blazers (1-0).
BASEBALL
Yuba City 4, Nevada Union 3, 11 innings
David Schroeder smacked a single down the left field line to score the winning run to lift the Honkers to an 11-inning road victory.
Quinton Rocha went 3-for-5 with a double and Blake Parks had a pair of hits including a double. Zach Oakley got the win from the mound for Yuba City (4-0).
River valley 10, Sutter 0
Torin Graham went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and Josh Campos and Alex Pino were 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBIs in the win for the Falcons.
Pino threw a complete game, one hitter with five strikeouts in the mercy rule shortened victory.
Maxwell 9, Willows 4
James Bowen hit a homerun and went 2-for-4, with two RBI's for the Panthers (6-1). Kent Leber went 2-for-3 and Tyler Wells went 1-for-2 at home.
Faith Christian 6, Live Oak 4
Josh Hill went 1-for-4 while Josh Dunham went 3-for-3 with three RBI's for the Lions (1-0) at home.
GOLF
Golden Sierra tops Marysville
Alex Cummings posted a 42 followed by Raymond Reed with a 51 and Austin Sellars with a 52 against Golden Sierra at Peach Tree Golf Course.
TENNIS
Lindhurst 9, San Juan 0
Peter Yang won his singles match 6-2, 6-2 and topped off San Juan to a 9-0 victory. Chong Yee Thao also won in his singles match (6-0, 6-3).
Mee Thao and Mai Yang both won their matches in the girls singles. Thao won (6-4, 6-1) and Yang won (6-4, 6-3).
Willows 7, Wheatland 2
Steffan Wagman won his singles and doubles match with partner Derek Zepp in the Pirates' non-league home loss.
In singles, Wagman won 6-3, 6-3. In doubles, the team won 8-3. Wheatland opens Butte View League play today with Sutter.
SOCCER
Faith Chr. 3, Millennium 3
Sarah hall posted two goals while Alex Arnold added a goal and Lacy Bicknell had an assist. Angela Lee and Hannah Willis both played well defense. Joo Lee had 14 saves for the Lions (3-1-2).

Marysville tops Lindhurst
The Indians Christine Chiono placed first in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 43.50 second and also finished in first in the 100 butterfly (1:12.39) to lead the Marysville girls to a 134-22 victory. Maxine Baker finished first in the 100 freestyle (1:12.06) and also the 100 backstroke (1:23.73.).
Lindhurst High's Jessica Calisterio finished 2nd place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:36.53.
Marysville High's Bohdi Yeaton placed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.83 and also placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.25 to lead the Indians to a 98-24 victory.
Jared Woods finished first in the 200 yard Individual Medley with a time 2:43.84. Woods also placed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:14.39. Indians beat the Blazers 98-24.
