Prep Roundup: Sutter volleyball, Y.C. soccer do well
The Sutter High volleyball team reached the semifinals of the Vikings Kappa Showcase this weekend at Pleasant Valley High School in Chico.
Sutter topped Gridley (25-17, 25-15) and Red Bluff (19-25, 25-16, 15-11) but lost to West Valley (27-25, 17-25, 12-15). Still, the Huskies qualified for the Gold Bracket of the 16-team tournament where they beat Shasta (15-25, 25-18, 15-9) before falling to Hamilton (22-25, 13-25).
Katelyn Olson was named to the all-tournament team and had 62 service points, eight aces, 52 digs and 34 blocks.
Brenna McDonald had 33 service points and eight aces and also tallied 35 kills and 30 digs. Angela DeHaan finished the tournament with 35 service points, 27 kills and 15 blocks and Katelyn Cavalli had 28 kills and 13 blocks. Allie Foster (43 digs) and Sam Foster (110 assists) also played well for the Huskies (9-7).

Faith finishes third in Modesto tourney
The Faith Christian boys soccer team competed in the Big Valley Christian Soccer Tournament in Modesto and walked away with a third place overall finish.
The Lions won their opener on Friday 7-1 over Tioga with Spencer Iskikian netting four goals and an assist and Skylar Ripley tallying two goals and an assist.
The Lions blanked Modesto Christian 5-0 in their second game on Saturday behind Iskikian's two goals and two assists. Faith fell 2-0 against Millennium Charter but rebounded on Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Bradshaw Christian.
Iskikian and Micah Atkins both scored in the finale for Faith.
Yuba City takes second in Redding
The Honkers boys soccer team fell 3-1 to Analy on Saturday and finished second in the Redding Rotary Soccer Tournament. Dario Teyes scored the lone goal for Yuba City off an assist from Victor Alcantar. Ben Anderson and Martin Gonzales played well in the backfield for the Honkers.
The Honkers' JV team also traveled to the tournament and competed against varsity teams. The group finished 0-1-2 with strong play from Juan Ramirez, Javier Fernandez and Michael Chavez.
CROSS COUNTRY
Falcons run in Rosemont
The River Valley High cross country team competed at the Rosemont High Invite over the weekend. Running on a 2.2 mile course, David Streeter (13 minutes, 17 seconds) finished in 34th place to lead the varsity boys and Kym Crosby (15:27) came in 15th to pace the varsity girls.
Swarnjit Boyal finished first in the frosh-soph race with a time of 11:36. Amirt Boyal (12:55) was 13th, Jacob Clayton (13:00) was 15th, Andre Titus was (13:14) was 18th and Andres Quijas (13:16) finished in 19th place.
