Prep Roundup: Honkers' Mora is TCC Co-MVP
Yuba City High soccer player Isaac Mora was named co-MVP of the Tri-County Conference, along with Natomas' Kris Schultz this year.
Pedro Guzman, Trevor Kent, Walker Shaw and Dario Teyes were named all-conference for the Honkers.
Edgar Aguirre, Castulo Carvajal, Darrik Meyers, and Felipe Rodriguez represented River Valley on the all-conference team. Jessy Vega, a former Wheatland High student, was also named to the team for Natomas.
River Valley's Jacky Tanner was named to the all-conference volleyball team.
For Yuba City, Katie Reiland, Tori Thomas, Taylor Thompson and Jacqueline VanRuetin received the honors.
CROSS COUNTRY
Yuba City High sophomores Jose Guzman and Jo ann Fernandez finished eighth and ninth respectively in the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships at Willow Hills Reservoir in Folsom on Saturday.
Guzman finished in 12 minutes and 6 seconds on the 2.11 mile course. Fernandez came in at 12:09.
Freshman Holly McAlister finished 19th (15:20) for the girls' frosh-soph team.
YOUTH SOCCER
Azzurri FC gets shutout victory
The Azzurri FC under-14 boys team shutout the Cap Valley United Rangers 5-0 on Saturday.
Ivan Ambrocio scored two goals while Kobe Bancroft, Brayan Cruz and Hoscar Hernandez scored one each.
Leading the defense was Eric Uribe, Jake Monroe and Gilberto Lopez. Antonio Huizar-Paras, Andres Moreno and Sully Guy played strong in the midfield and goalie Robert Quintero played well.
Faith Christian goes undefeated
The Faith Christian elementary soccer team scored 30 goals and only gave up seven throughout its undefeated season.
The team was led in scoring by Luke Bicknell, Josh Bradley, Chase Gordon, Abby Maddalena, Moriah Maddalena, Ryan Pavey and Andrea Samay. Zach Belza played well in goal all season.
CHEERLEADING
The Junior Honkers junior midgets cheer squad placed second in the cheer category at the Nor Cal State Cheer Competition in Palo Cedro on Sunday.
The Wheatland Pirates pee wees took second place in cheer. The midget squad took second in cheer and dance.
The junior Huskies pee wees finished second place in dance.
