LO netters beat Sutter
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Live Oak High girls tennis team got past Sutter, 5-4, on Tuesday night thanks to sisters Rachel and Jennifer DeWitt.
Rachel DeWitt topped Sutter's Taylor Franco 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match, while Jennifer DeWitt edged Allison Olivera 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 2s.
The two also teamed up in the No. 1 doubles to clinch the win in Live Oak's season opener. The sisters defeated Franco and Shelby Rickertson 8-4.
Live Oak's Sukheveera Cheema snuck past Sutter's Mall ry Albers 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match.
Sutter got on the board in the No. 4 singles match when Amber Birch defeated Live Oak's Daniella Dumitras 1-6, 7-6(7-3), 6-3, while teammate Rickertson topped Verimina Chavez 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 6s.
Live Oak's Alora Sutcliffe earned a win in the No. 5s to give the Lions a 4-2 advantage headed into the doubles pairings.
Sutter (1-1) took the final two doubles matches.
Volleyball
East Nicolaus 3, Colusa 1
East Nicolaus topped Colusa 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 25-13 on the road to start its season.
Juliete Contant recorded 12 kills, four aces and four blocks for the Spartans, while teammate Mariah Walker added six kills, two blocks and four digs.
East Nicolaus' Haily Green recorded 10 digs and Haley Uhland had 19 assists, two blocks and four kills.
The Spartans' junior varsity team also started its season in the win column, defeating Colusa's JVs, 26-24, 17-25, 15-11.
