Prep Roundup: Marysville, River Valley softball roll
Freshman Morgan Welch hit a home run and Danielle Ferrari added another big fly for the Indians as the Marysville High softball team rolled West Campus 13-3 on the road Wednesday.
"They jacked them out of the park," Indians coach Maurice Clavelle said.
Welch was 2 for 4, Jocelynn Talosig went 2 for 3 and Ashten Welch was 2 for 4 in the six-inning mercy-rule win for the Indians (8-4, 3-1).
Dixon 11, Lindhurst 4
Jaime Mahoney went 3 for 4 and scored a pair of runs, but it wasn't enough to lead the Blazers past Dixon in a Golden Empire League contest on the road.
Ashley Halcomb went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Morgan Thome finished 1 for 2 with an RBI to help the cause for Lindhurst (6-7, 2-2).
River Valley 16, Natomas 2
Nicole Robinson was 3 for 4 with a double, Courtney Smith was 3 for 4 and the Falcons rebounded from Friday's 2-0, extra-inning loss to Pioneer with a mercy-rule rout of the Nighthawks on the road.
Samantha Neher went 1 for 3 with three RBIs for River Valley (7-2-1, 2-1).
GOLF
Brown gets top honors
Yuba City's Taylor Brown shot a tournament-best 72 and shot 3-under on the back nine to help lead the Honkers to a third-place finish at the TCC league tournament at Wild Wings Golf Course in Woodland.
Woodland won the tourney with a 426, River Valley was second at 463 and Yuba City shot a 471 to take third. Inderkum (497) was fourth and Pioneer (508) was fifth.
Freshman Steven Spatafore shot an 86, William Jow carded an 87 and Lucas Vaughn had an 88 to lead River Valley. Riley Horan shot an 82 and Gus Wiezorek had an 84 for Yuba City.
Sutter, Gridley split league match
The Bulldogs won the front nine and the Huskies took the back nine at a Butte View League match at Glenn County Club in Willows.
Gridley shot a 222 on the front nine and a 215 after the turn. The Huskies won the back nine with a 208 and shot 237 on the front.
Matt Pederson shot an 82 and Mack Rickertson tallied an 84 for Sutter. Gridley was led by Kevin Creech (84) and Emery Haddy (84).
TENNIS
West Campus 8, Marysville 1
Courtney and Michelle Ngai won 10-7 in No. 2 doubles, but the Indians (8-3, 6-2) dropped their GEL match at West Campus.
TRACK & FIELD
Yuba City boys top Inderkum, 74-53
Bernell Barmore won the 110-meter hurdles (14.8 seconds), Jose Guzman and Jo An Fernandez tied for first in the 1600 meters (4:51) and Fernandez, Guzman and Greg Grealdo all tied for first in the 3200 (14:30), according to Honkers coach Mike Buzbee.
Fernandez, Barmore, Guzman and Manny Garcha won the 1600 relay (3:46), Davis Harper won the shot put (42 feet, 10 inches) and Victor Ly took the discus (130-5). Barmore also won the triple jump (44-9) and Nick Brown took the high jump (5-4).
The Honkers varsity girls fell 64-47 to the Tigers. Niyia Sims won the 1600 (5:51) and Holly McAlister, Kate Aldridge and Sims all tied for first in the 3200 (17:00), according to coach Buzbee.
Wonwyne Hale won the shot put (33-0) and Discus (70-0).
The Frosh-Soph boys fell 63-33. David Lee won the 110 hurdles (21.3), Ralphie Lara took the 300 hurdles (45.7), Sage Wallace won the shot put (38-2) and Discus (57-3).
