Roundup: Princeton captures section crown
The Princeton High baseball team is section champions.
The Eagles strung together a four-run second inning en route to a 7-5 victory over Dunsmuir on the road on Tuesday in the Northern Section Division VI championship game.
Bernie Serato, the No. 9 batter, hit a two-run triple and Memo Rodriguez followed it with an RBI ground rule double in the second. Rodriguez scored in the first fun for the Eagles after belting a single, moving to second on a wild pitch and crossing the plate after a pair of infield grounders.
After the second inning, Dunsmuir loaded the bases on three consecutive walks from Princeton starter Darren Swearinger. But the pitcher responded by striking out eight of the nine batters he faced following the trio of base on balls.
The Tigers scored four runs in the fifth to cut the Eagles lead to 6-5. Princeton added an insurance run in the seventh after Cody Hansen was hit by a pitch was brought in a Cody Hansen double.

Hammond best in Modesto
Lindhurst High sprinter Raquel Hammond topped the competition and collected a pair of personal bests at the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III championship trials at Modesto Junior College. Hammond won the 100 meters (12.7) and 200 meters (26.36) to qualify for the section masters, which start on Thursday in Sacramento.
Jarade Davis also qualified for the masters by running fifth in the 400 (54.16) and Jurrell Davis finished seventh in the 800 (2:03.7) for Lindhurst.
Marysville's Alana Grove is moving on after finishing fifth in the long jump (16 feet, 5.5 inches). Marci Monjares ran a personal best in the 800 (2:10.6) for Marysville.
