Roundup: Gridley keeps on cruising, holds off Winters
The Gridley High boys basketball team dropped visiting Winters 57-49 on Friday to improve to 5-0 in Butte View League play.
Anthony Paredes scored 16 points and Ty Nichols and Trevor Scott both scored 11 for the Bulldogs (16-4, 5-0).
Wheatland 74, Sutter 48
James Trujillo scored 22 points and the Pirates had a season-high nine players score to help the Pirates notch their first Butte View League Victory.
Vince Vetrone scored nine points while Andrew Starr and Ceron Cherry added eight each for Wheatland (8-12, 1-4).
Isaiah Bohmann scored 16 points and Ben Eisenbarth added 13 for the Huskies (11-10, 2-3).
The Huskies junior varsity team won 50-36. Quinton Hicks scored 21 points for the Huskies (6-11, 3-2) while Trent Little had 16 points.
New Life Chr. 68, Excelsior 43
Mikie DeLozier threw down 25 points to help the Crusaders stay perfect in Northern Pacific League play.
Lance DeLozier added 14 points and Ricky Laughlin and Gary Whiteley scored nine each for New Life Christian (9-7, 5-0).
Yuba City 72, Woodland 51
Zach Nelson and Matt Hayes each scored 15 points to help the Honkers stay perfect in the Tri-County Conference with the road victory. Donnie Triphan scored 13 points and Jordan Garcia added 11 for Yuba City (17-3, 6-0).
The Honkers JV team won 61-60. Nate VanDusen tallied 19 points for the Honkers (9-15, 3-3) while Gaggen Purewal had 15 points.
The Yuba City freshman lost 59-45. Channyng Gross had 17 points for the Honkers (5-13).
East Nicolaus 67, Esparto 43
Scotty Lehman had 22 points for the Spartans (13-5, 3-1). Kenny Michel added 18 points and Adam Michel chipped in with nine.
Encina 56, Lindhurst 54
Jarrade Davis scored 17 points in the home loss for the Blazers. AZ Sutton scored 14 points and Johnny Yang added nine for Lindhurst (10-10, 3-4).
The Blazers JV team won 72-32. Miguel French scored 31 points and Devin Ward added 19 for the Blazers (16-4, 7-0).
San Juan 62, Marysville 52
Alex Cummings dropped in 12 points for the Indians (9-11, 3-4). Kyle Clanton and Taddy Coleman both contributed 11 in the Golden Empire League home loss.
The Indians JV team won 57-46. Miguel Calderon scored 24 points while Thomas Mehler added eight and Hayden Mejia put up seven for the Indians (5-3, 4-2).
Inderkum 59, River Valley 58
Gabriel Finley scored 17 points to lead the Falcons (13-8, 4-2). Sobhi Bains added 14 points, Jessie Shergill had nine points and Zach Cross contributed eight at home in the TCC loss.
The Falcons JV team lost 75-71. Anthony Boykin had 26 points for the Falcons (14-5, 4-2). Jake Phillips scored 19 points and Derek Zaragoga added 10 points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Sutter 45, Wheatland 41
Courtney Gravel had 15 points to lead the Huskies at home in a Butte View League matchup. Erika Larson added 11 points with 18 rebounds and five blocks for Sutter (12-9, 1-4).
For the Pirates, Lanaya Canalin scored 11 points and Kayla Woods added eight.
Faith Chr. 26, Country Day 22
Danielle Best and Hannah Baber scored eight points each for the Lions. Baber also had eight rebounds for Faith Chr. (6-8, 6-2).
Lindhurst 66, Encina 43
Brenna Gates scored 19 points for the Blazers (5-2). Janeth Lopez added 18 and Ashanti Sweezer had 11 points in the GEL road victory.
Gridley 36, Winters 30
McKenna Cox scored 12 points for the Bulldogs (12-8, 4-1). Lily Struble had 11 points and Chelsea Warren added six points for Gridley.
Colusa 59, Live Oak 46
Caroline Meyers scored 24 points for the Redskins (10-9, 2-2). Katie Mobley added 15 points and Meghan Foster scored 14 points in the road win.
