Wy qualifies for Masters

River Valley High's T.J. Wy has qualified in two events for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters track and field meet, following his performance at the Div. II finals Fridayt Bella Vista High.

Wy clocked 4 minutes, 18.19 seconds to finish second in the boys 1,600-meter run. It was a school record by about five seconds, said coach Paul Odegard. Wy also finished second in the 3,200 with a school record time of 9:51.92.

Amandeep Singh placed 22nd in the 1,600 (4:51.8).

Also Friday, Jordan Vida set a school record in the boys long jump, leaping 20 feet, 2 inches. He finished 13th.

At the preliminary trials on Wednesday, Vida set a record in the triple jump with a 39-9 effort. Singh set a personal best mark of 2:04.33 in the 800 with his 10th place finish.

Keith Wager, Vida, Justin Brousseau and Brandon Wolucka clocked 435.62 in the 400 relay, finishing 13th. Wager, Brousseau, Wolucka and Singh timed 3:37.27 in the 1,600 relay.

Kym Crosby finished 14th in the girls 100 with a time of 13.15. She set a record in the 200 with a 27.48 clocking, which was good for 14th.

The Masters Meet will be held Thursday and Friday at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento.
