Y.C., R.V. boys tie for first
The Yuba City and River Valley highs varsity boys tied for first place with a score of 76 to make for a long day of track and field at the Falcon Invitational on Saturday.
The Gridley girls finished first with a score of 100, topping second-place tying teams River Valley and Orland, who scored 67s.
River Valley's Kym Crosby took first in four events, including the winning relay for the varsity girls, the 100 meter, 200 and 400. Nataly Gastar, Nicole Bendorf, Fenny Descuatan and Crosby ran the 4x100 with a time of 425.76 and broke a new record by 4 seconds.
River Valley's Jordan Veta broke a new school and meet record with a time of 48.83 in the 300 meter hurdles, while teammate Vanessa Kennedy placed second in the 300 hurdles (50.79) and also took third in the 100 hurdles (17.88) for the girls.
Freshman Swarnjit Boyal topped the 1600 record with a (4:57.48) and set a new record by 10 seconds in the 3200 with a time of 1:13.71. Boyal also placed se ond in the 800 (2:20.21).
Trevor Crane of Wheatland won the discus event with a throw of 137-feet, 7-inches and beat the school record that was set in 1977 (137-4). Mario Gomez won the pole vault event with an 11-6 mark.
