Derek Carothers / Sutter High Combined on no-hitter

Roundup: Huskies blaze into sections, roll Lindhurst

Zach Prosser and Derek Carothers combined on a no-hitter Friday, pitching the Sutter High baseball team to a 13-0 Butte View League win over host Lindhurst.

With the win, the Huskies (22-5, 8-2) finished second in the BVL to Winters, and most likely nailed down the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Northern Section Div. II playoffs. Sutter, the defending Section champion, will host a first-round playoff game Friday.

Prosser went three innings, striking out four and walking three. Carothers went the final two innings, fanning five and walking none.

Jeremy Birmingham went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, Josh Birmingham was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Steven Carmack wen 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Mitch Sanders was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Pioneer 9, River Valley 3

Cody Miller and Brad Kent had two hits a piece for the Falcons. Cammeron Pankey had a hit and an RBI. Kent drove in an RBI as well for River Valley (3-9, 6-18).

Durham 5, Pierce 1

Ottie Harris went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple for Pierce (8-15, 2-8).

Bradshaw Chr. 8, Faith 7

Josh Dunham, Cody Martin and Jon Songer each had two hits for the Lions. Martin hit a home run, a triple and drove in four RBIs. Dunham hit a triple and scored three runs for Faith (9-10, 5-6).

Esparto 10, East Nicolaus 4

Scotty Lehman had three hits and three stolen bases for the Spartans. Stewie Judkins and John Kukuruda hit a double each. Kukuruda also had two RBIs for East Nicolaus (15-5) in the non-league matchup.

SOFTBALL

Lindhurst 10, Marysville 0

Jennifer Rodriguez went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs for the Blazers. Morgan Thome also had three hits. Jordan Stanaland, Samantha Gillock and Stephanie Papadapolus had two hits each. Thome and Papadapolus each recorded two RBIs.

Stanaland faced 21 batters and struck out seven for Lindhurst (12-8-1, 5-3).

JV BASEBALL

Pioneer 13, River Valley 2

River Valley 14, Pioneer 4

Gabe Betancourt went 2-for-3 with a double for the Falcons.

On Thursday, Betancourt wet 2-for-5 with a triple and knocked in two RBIs. Kyle Johnson and Israel Arroyo each had two hits. Both of Arroyos were doubles. Dustin Smith went 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Falcons (9-13, 7-5).

Sutter 17, Lindhurst 0

Ray Miller, Daniel Atkins, Sam Kuykendall and Chris Steele each hit a homerun in the nonleague matchup. Miller also hit a pair of doubles and knocked in six RBIs. Freshman Brendon Ahlers had two hits while classmate Lucas Hensley had three for Sutter (17-6).

Yuba City 10, Inderkum 0

Quentin Rocha went 2-for-3 with a two-run homerun. Blake Alexander and David Schroeder each had two hits. Schroeder was the winning pitcher with six strike outs in the no hitter for Yuba City (13-11, 10-2).

JV SOFTBALL

Yuba City 20, Natomas 2

Maria LeBouyer went 3-for-4 with a triple. Xotchil Medina had three hits and knocked in four RBIs for Yuba City (16-7, 11-2).

FROM THURSDAY:

SOCCER

Lindhurst 1, Highlands 0

Yia Xiong scored the lone goal for the Blazers (6-6, 6-5) and Veronica Garcia and Brenna Gates combined on the shut out at goal keeper.

Alex Cook and New Xiong also had outstanding defensive performances for Lindhurst, which has doubled its win total from last season.

SOFTBALL

Princeton 20, Faith Christian 5

Justine Ekdawy was the only Lion to record a hit in the loss.
