Prep Roundup: L.O. tennis takes league by storm
Comments 0 | Recommend 0It was all Live Oak High on Saturday at the Sacramento Valley League girls tennis championships at the Yuba City Racquet Club.
All four semifinalists were Lions with No. 2 Alora Sutcliffe defeating teammate Fermina Chavez 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the championship match to clinch the SVL singles title.
Sutcliffe advanced to the title match with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 victory over top-seeded Jennifer De Witt. Chavez dropped Melissa Anderson 6-3, 6-2 to reach the finals.
All four semifinalists will advance to the Northern Section Tournament on Saturday at Foothill High School in Redding.
Daniela Dumitras and De Witt won the doubles title after defeating Colusa's Talyn Imhoff and Tenille Tausher 6-0, 7-5 in the final. Sutcliffe and Chavez took third.

YC's Zuniga medals in Lodi
Yuba City High senior Luis Zuniga posted one of his fastest times of the season to finish 12th in the varsity boys division at the Eagle Invitational at Lodi Lake Park on Saturday.
Zuniga was a medalist at the invitational event after finishing the mostly flat 2.98-mile course in 17 minutes, 23 seconds. Scott Walters finished in 23:03 to finish 106th.
Junior Liliana Pinedo was a medalist in the varsity girls division with a 38th place finish in 24:10. Angelina Aceves ran 27:19 for 52nd place.
The Honkers went 1-2 in the sophomore boys division with Jose Guzman winning the race on the 1.87-mile course in 9:46. Teammate Jo ann Fernandez Rodriguez took second in 10:01.
Teammates Patrick de los Santos (11:24, 26th) and Kevin Lewis (12:02, 37th) also ran season-best races for the Honkers.
In the freshman girls division, Holly McAlister finished 5th overall in 12:21 and was a medalist. Teammates Kaitlyn Walker (17:53, 34th), Harpreet Kaur (18:34, 37th), and Nicole de los Santos (18:49, 38th) also ran for the young Honkers, who each posted their fastest performances of the year.

Lindhurst 35, San Juan 13
Angel Vega ran for 135 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns and hauled in two passes for 76 yards and a fourth score as the Blazers (2-5, 2-1) rollled to their second straight Golden Empire League win.
AZ Sutton completed 7-of-14 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, one to Vega and the other to Stephen Paxton.
JV FOOTBALL
East Nicolaus 41, Quincy 12
Joey Sleva rushed for three touchdowns and Justin Ozcan, Mikey Zimmerman and Kyle Bolla each had one to lead the Spartans (7-1, 5-0) to a Mid-Valley League win over Quincy.
