Pirates’ Faires, Carpenter top fields
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Wheatland High made it a clean sweep Friday afternoon, as Pirates Eric Faires and Jessica Carpenter set course records at Collins Lake while winning their respective divisions at the seventh annual Marysville High Indians Friendship Cross Country Meet.
Faires bested a field of 75 runners to win the 3.1-mile varsity boys race in a time of 17 minutes, 52 seconds. The old record was 18:44.
Carpenter won the varsity girls race, which featured 41 runners. Her time of 20:34 beat the old mark of 21:56.
A total of 216 runners participated in the race.
"That's the most we've ever had," said Marysville coach and meet director Jim Rennie.
The top 20 individuals in each race earned medals.
Other Pirates running with Faires included Philip Faires (12th, 19:16) and Marcus Lemonhead (24th, 20:26).
River Valley's Abdul Ghafour finished second (18:05). Other Falcons included Amandeep Singh (6th, 18:53), Dustin Fullmer (154th, 19:31), Jonathon Hewitt (42nd, 21:51) and Emilio Delgado (47th, 22:25).
Yuba City's Luis Zuniga placed fourth (18:38). Other Honkers included Rashed Razzada (9th, 19:06), Satvir Bains (19th, 19:52), Harjit Singh (23rd, 20:25) and Shane Johnson (29th, 21:00).
Running for Colusa were Isidro Garcia (22nd, 20:02) and Roberto Guzman (43rd, 21:52). Competing for Faith Christian were Ari Hall (34th, 21:15), Bobby Lovell (44th, 22:03), Garson Greathouse (59th, 23:49) and Justin Spence (65th, 24:47).
Running for Lindhurst were Austin Oliver (36th, 21:32), Matthew Kerns (37th, 21:39), Orion Dautrive (68th, 25:50), Anthony Cabellero (69th, 26:01) and Jerry Kennedy (72d, 27:08).
Competing for host Marysville were Andrew Fogle (33rd, 21:07), Ian Crane (39th, 21:41) and David Simeroth (55th, 23:17).
Running with Carpenter for Wheatland in the varsity girls race were Makayla Boyd (13th, 25:39), Nichole Callahan (16th, 26:07), Kelsey Carreras (36th, 31:11) and Rebecca Krause (37th, 31:58).
Sarah Feddersen (4th, 21:51) ran for Marysville.
Running for Colusa were Mimi Rinzlek (5th, 22:34), Carli Marengo (6th, 22:37), Kiley Herrick (10th, 24:07), Leslie Lopez (22nd, 26:56) and Violeta Garcia (24th, 27:31).
Competing for Lindhurst were Beronica Rivera (!2th, 25:32), Ariel Caporale (34th, 29:48), Fabiola Perez (35th, 29:57) and Adriana Rivera (40th, 35:31).
Running for Faith Christian were Hannah Baber (23rd, 27:02) and Kynsie Lovell (29th, 28:34).
Competing for Yuba City were Jasmine Visla (28th, 28:17), Emily Wolverton (31st, 29:23) and Jennifer Godfrey (38th, 32:55).
Yuba City's Trevor Hamill won the frosh-soph boys race, timing 13 minutes flat for 2 miles. There were 38 runners.
Other Honkers included Patrick de los Santos (4th, 13:22), Elias Adame (6th, 13:34), Alex Boyer (12th, 13:53) and Scott Walters (21st, 14:33).
Running for River Valley were Hayden Sampley (7th, 13:43), Nik Mehta (10th, 13:51), Trevor Well (17th, 14:17), Len Curtis (19th, 14:27) and Sy Harig (22nd, 14:36).
Ruben Krause (35th, 17:17) ran for Wheatland.
Yuba City's Lexi Giusti placed second in the frosh-soph girls race, clocking 14:51. There were 32 runners.
Other Honkers included Lilliana Pinedo (10th, 17:05), Jessica Najarro (11th, 17:14) and Baljot Dhoot (19th, 18:38).
Running for River Valley were Kym Crosby (4th, 15:59), Kathlyn Garza (5th, 15:59), Vanessa Kennedy (6th, 16:04), Nicole Bendorf (16th, 17:39) and Laila Khan (23rd, 19:54).
Competing for Marysville were Sarah Fogle (7th, 16:06) and Allyson Goforth (9th, 17:05).
Alyssa Velazquez (24th, 20:22) ran for Colusa.
Faith Christian's Jacob Clayton won the junior high boys 1.5-mile race, timing 9:15. There were 27 runners.
Other Lions included Aidan Greathouse (17th, 11:13) and David McClain (21st, 12:53).
Competing for Bear River in Wheatland were Seth Millington (2nd, 9:18), Andrew Lit (5th, 9:51), Jacob Faires (7th, 10:06), Edgar Sanabia (8th, 10:12) and Spencer Koski (!3th, 10:24).
Running for Egling in Colusa were Ross Cervantes (3rd, 9:18), Kyle Cervantes (4th, 9:47), Lane Cervantes (10th, 10:19) and Andrew Phillips (11th, 10:22).
Competing for Yuba Gardens were Ernosto Talamantes (6th, 10:00), Pedro Hernandez (12th, 10:24), Isidro Jimenez (18th, 11:19), Darnell Duke (19th, 12:05) and Augustin Tinoco (20th, 12:42).
Bear River's Faith Gottenberg won the three-person JV girls race (10:46). Julia Northrup of Yuba Gardens placed second (12:10) and Bear River's Hannah Trinidad was third (13:40).
