Sutter goes 3-3 in Carmichael
The Huskies won their first match, stumbled, then ended their stay at the 10-team tournament with a flourish by winning their final two matches in the consolation bracket.
The Huskies beat Bret Harte (25-15, 25-14) then fell to Bella Vista (25-21, 25-10), Monte Vista (25-16, 25-20) and Rancho Cotate (25-19, 25-23). In the consolation bracket, Sutter rolled North Tahoe (25-5, 25-13) and closed out the day with a 25-13, 25-6 win over Hilmer.
Katie Olson had 44 service points, three aces and 18 kills. Allie Foster tallied 65 assists and Shaila Gidel had 39 digs and 18 service points.
Brenna McDonald had 28 kills, Katelynee Cavalli had 19 kills and Angela DeHaan had 31 service points and two aces.
CROSS COUNTRY
Y.C. runners place at Del Oro
The Yuba City High cross country team took six of their players to the 2nd Annual Del Oro Cross Country Invitationals late Thursday evening.
Jo an Fernandez ran an early race and finished 16th in 14 minutes, eight seconds to lead all Honkers. Joe Guzman (14:35) finished 26th and Abraham Barajas (16:00) placed 45th out of 200 competitors.
In the frosh-soph girls race, sophomore Niya Sims (18:15) placed and finished 14th out of 120 athletes with fellow teammate, Holly McAlistar (19:17) finishing 30th.
YOUTH SOCCER
Azzurri FC splits
The Azzurri FC U14 boys soccer team split two games at the Roseville Invitational on Saturday. In the first game, the Azzurri lost 2-1 to the Roseville Brigade.
Erick Uribe scored the lone goal.
In the second game, FC defeated the Folsom Express 1-0.
Kobe Bancroft scored the winning goal and defense was lead by Jake Monroe, Gilberto Lopez, Brayan Cruz and Victor Garcia.
