Roundup: Yuba City track and field strong at league meet
Yuba City High's track and field team traveled to Bella Vista for the Capitol Athletic League Invite on Saturday. Sophomore Wonwyne Hale placed fourth in the shotput with a distance of 30-feet, 1-inch. She also finished seventh in the discus (81).
Jessica Soto placed eighth in the 100-meter high hurdles event with a time of 19.96 seconds. The foursome of Soto, Katie Haymore, Asia Pimentel and Crystal Haymore finished 10th in the 400 relay (57.74).
On the boys' side, Rashed Razzada placed seventh in the 800 (2:13.2) and ninth in the 110 high hurdles (18.74).
Luis Zuniga placed 10th in the 800 (2:15.92).
The team of Reed Cook, Manraj Garcha, Manuel Serda and Trevor Hammill placed third in the 1600 relay (3:50.78) for the frosh-soph boys' team. Burnell Barmore finished fourth in the 100 (11.96) and Trevor Rowe took 10th (12.22).
Hammill took fourth in the 110 high hurdles (20:30), Roberto Saavedra finished sixth (21.16) and Kevin Lewis took ninth (23:09). Manuel Serda placed seventh in the 400 (56.61). Evan German finished ninth in the 800 (2:22.35) and 10th in the 400 (58.12). Rodney Dunn took sixth in the discus.
Seven swimmers place for FRAC
Aaron Birch placed in five events in at the qualifier meet for the Sierra Nevada Junior Olympic Championship on Saturday at the Feather River Aquatic Club.
Birch was the champion in the 200 breast stroke (2:49.07) and the 50 breast (35.96). He also placed second in the 100 back (1:05.50), the 200 individual medley (2:33.78) and third in the 50 freestyle (27.41).
Arun Rai placed first in the 100 IM (1:35.53) and the 50 breast (49.18). He finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:33.10) and third in the 50 back (44.37).
Erica Bellenfant took third in the 100 back (1:09.31) and the 100 freestyle (59.31), and fourth in the 100 fly (1:08.42).
Loran Cocca won the 100 fly (1:11.32). Alyssa Todd placed third in the 50 freestyle (27.33). Claudia Guillory finished third in the 50 back (34.82) and Kevin Hall took fourth in the 50 freestyle (27.28).
Hawes cruises at MRP
Marysville's Jeremy Hawes won a heat race at the Marysville Raceway Park on Saturday, but fell short in the Wingless Sprint Car feature. Hawes took second in the event.
