Prep Roundup: Pierce tops Live Oak, remains undefeated
Ricardo Ambriz netted the tie-breaking goal with eight minutes remaining in the match to lift Pierce High's boys soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Live Oak on a cold Monday in Arbuckle.
With the win, the undefeated Bears (3-0) moved into first place in the Sacramento Valley League, while the Lions (2-1-1) fell to 1-1-1 in SVL play.
"We just played uninspired soccer today," said Live Oak coach Mike Owen. "We got there late, never warmed-up and never really got it going offensively at all."
Angel Magallon put the Bears up 1-0 early in the second half before Live Oak tied it on a goal from Hector Cibrian minutes later.
"We just didn't have the legs," said Owen, who credited the speed of Pierce's back-line as being a key to the game.
