Prep Roundup: Indians volley rolls
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Marysville High volleyball team swept San Juan 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 on Thursday to improve to 7-3 in the Golden Empire League.
Hailey Harris recorded 15 digs, nine kills and two blocks to lead the Indians, while Alyssa Villa added 12 assists, seven digs and two aces. Marissa Clavelle also had eight kills and five digs.
The Marysville junior varsity team won 25-17, 25-9.
Cameo Stevens had six aces and four kills, Annie Lin added five assists and two aces and Jaime Mahoney slammed eight kills and dropped three aces.
Sutter 3, Orland 0
Kamalei Clifton tallied 32 assists and eight service points, Shaila Gidel added 10 kills and two blocks and the Huskies cruised to a 25-18, 25-12, 25-18 Butte View League win on the road.
Brenna McDonald chipped in with 10 kills and two blocks and Jennifer Wood added seven kills for Sutter (34-3, 7-0).
Durham 3, Colusa 1
The Redskins took the first game from their league rival before falling 23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-17.
Katelyn Mena and Caroline Meyers each had six kills and Magaly Acevedo added 14 assists, four kills and three aces for the Redskins (5-12, 1-4).
The JV team lost 25-20, 25-21, 15-10. Katie Mobley had six kills and Emily Mobley had five kills and five aces.
Woodland 3, River Valley 0
It was a frustrating day on the road for the Falcons, who fell 25-13, 25-14, 25-20 to the Wolves. Hayley Thompson led River Valley with two kills.
The Falcons JV team won 25-16, 18-35, 15-13 and the freshman lost 25-18, 25-15.
FIELD HOCKEY
River Valley 1, Bella Vista 0
Sarah Moratto scored a goal with a minute remaining in overtime to give River Valley their first win of the season. Kelina Orozco played well on defense and Cassie Houck notched her first shutout in goal for the Falcons.
JV FOOTBALL
Wheatland 42, Las Plumas 7
Nolan West ran for a touchdown, passed for a touchdown and returned an interception for a score to lead the Pirates past the Thunderbirds at home.
Garrett White, Tyler Larcom and David Quesada also added touchdown runs for Wheatland (4-4), which improved to 1-2 in BVL competition.
FROSH FOOTBALL
Sutter 50, Willows 0
Mat Sanders rushed three times for 141 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 29 and 87 yards as the Huskies' freshman team crushed Willows at home.
Sanders also returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown for the 8-0 Huskies, who have outscored their foes 311-13 on the year.
Nathan Ahlers had a 48-yard touchdown run, Forrest Smith added a 5-yard score and Trent Little booted a pair of field goals and scored on a short touchdown run for Sutter. Tracy Miller added a 30-yard field goal.
Yuba City 28, Natomas 12
Nate Van Dusen needed only 13 carried to rack up 308 yards rushing and score three touchdowns as the Honkers topped the Wolves in a TCC game at home.
Van Dusen had scoring runs of 98, 90 and 51 yards on the evening, while quarterback Taylor Elkins scored on a short plunge for the Honkers' other score.
Linebacker Adrian Bankston and nose guard Cyrus Sales both shined defensively for Yuba City (5-2, 2-0).
River Valley 34, Woodland 14
Isaiah Johnson threw for a pair of touchdowns, Dewey Maxham rushed for a pair and Emilio Velasquez returned a 69-yard intereception for a score in the road win for the Falcons.
Dallas Cates led a strong River Valley defense that forced three turnovers.
