Roundup: Yuba City golf claims Cardinal Invitational
The Yuba City High boys golf team placed first at the Cardinal Invitational at Castle Oaks Golf Course in Ione for the second year in a row with a score of 404 on Monday.
Justin Estrada was the low man in the nine-team tournament with a one-over-par-72. Donnie Triphan shot a 78 to finish third overall for the Honkers.
Taylor Brown finished with a 82, John Holloway had a 83 and Kameron Buzdaz hit an 89 for Yuba City.
The Honkers face River Valley at Peach Tree Golf & Country Club today at 4 p.m.
BASEBALL
River Valley 12, Înderkum 1
Cameron Pankey went 2-for-4 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs to lead the Flacons to a victory in their Tri-County Conference opener.
Cody Miller and Josh Campos each had two hits. Miller had a double and knocked in two runs for River Valley (5-2, 1-0).
River Valley's junior varsity team won 12-0 in five innings. Cameron Olson went 2-for-4 and Robert Hudson hit a triple for the Falcons (7-0, 1-0).
Biggs 10, Los Molinos 4
David Williams hit a pair of doubles and drove in two runs to lead the Wolverines to a home victory.
Billy Jackson, Emilio Marquez and Martin Ibarra each had two hits for Biggs (5-2).
TENNIS
Yuba City 6, Inderkum 3
Jordon Friend (2-6, 6-4, 6-1), Rodolfo Gonzalez (7-5, 6-1) and Erich Kalau (6-7, 6-4, 6-1) each won singles matches to give the Honkers a TCC win over the Tigers on the road.
In doubles play, Abel Mora and Jordan Wilkinson (6-2, 6-2), Sami Musallam and Dante Chesini (6-2, 6-2) and Tony Uriostegui and Jose Lopez (6-3, 6-2) won for the Honkers (4-3, 3-0).
GIRLS SOCCER
Marysville 1, Capital Christian 0
Jennifer Valencia scored the game's lone goal and goalkeeper Angela Findley notched 10 saves to help the Indians edge the Cougars in a Golden Empire League match.
Marlain Tiff played well defensively for Marysville (3-4, 3-1), which ended a four-year winless drought against Capital Christian coach Chris Osborne said.
Nayllely Ferreria and Sahary Limeli each scored goals to lead the Indians' JV team to a 2-0 win over the Cougars.
River Valley 1, Pioneer 0
Jasmine Vida scored on a breakaway goal in the last five minutes to propel the Falcons. Brittany Peraita recorded the shutout at goal, while Chelsea Givens and Brittany Babs led River Valley (8-6, 2-1) in the midfield. The River Valley junior varsity team fell 2-0.
Golden Sierra 2, Lindhurst 0
The Blazers (3-4, 3-1) were shutout in their GEL match at home. Alex Cook and Andrea Beck were credited for their effort by coach Jon Klingensmith.
The JV team tied 0-0. Goalie Valeria Medina made seven saves for the Blazers (1-0-1).

Katelyn Melendez scored the lone goal in the road victory for the Honkers (4-0-1).
SWIMMING
FRAC swimmers make nationals
Aaron Birch placed first in the 50-yard backstroke at the 2009 Sierra Nevada Junior Olympics over the weekend with a time of 29.05 seconds.
The 12-year-old Feather River Aquatic Club swimmer also placed second in the 50 fly (28.17), fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:20.63) and fifth in the 200 breaststroke (2:47.69).
Maddy Birch placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:24.73) to qualify for the national finals along with Aaron.
Erica Bellenfont finished 15th in the 100 backstroke (1:06.83), Claudia Guillory placed 12th in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.14) and in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.17).
Kevin Hall placed 11th in the 200 freestyle (2:15.17) and 14th in the 50 freestyle (28.14).
TRACK & FIELD
Yuba City at LeFebvre Relays
The varsity girls relay team of Angela Markus, Julia Ganiteon, Annabel Mendoza and Jessica Soto finished with a time of 47.9 seconds in the 4x65 shuttle hurdles event at the LeFebvre Relays at Placer High School over the weekend.
For the soph-frosh boys team, Reed Cook, Kevin Lewis and Trevor Hammill placed fifth in the 4x65 hurdles with a time of 44.77 seconds.
Abraham Barajas, Patrick de los Santos, Frank Franco and Hammill finished seventh in the 800 meter relay (1:43.8) and Cook, Manraj Garcha, Jordan Hunt and Hammill finished with a time of 3:57 in the 1600 meter relay.
Wilson highlights all-star game
Wheatland High forward David Wilson scored a game-high 33 points to lead the South to a 100-77 victory over the North in the Northern Section All-Star Basketball game in Chico over the weekend.
East Nicolaus High's Jessee Gardner scored seven points and Sutter's Brian Southers added two for the South.
Williams' Allie Koualczuk scored five points in the South's 74-68 loss to the North.
