Prep Roundup: Wells, Perry team for another Maxwell no-no
The Maxwell High baseball team set out to prove itself against larger-school competition at the Shasta Lake Bass Tournament this week.
After going 4-0 while allowing just seven hits in the tournament, the newly minted champions are considering it a mission accomplished.
Tyler Wells and Steven Perry combined on a no-hitter and the Panthers topped Truckee 6-0 on Friday in the championship game at Big League Dreams in Redding.
"Our kids wanted to prove themselves," Maxwell coach Eric Lay said. "Our kids didn't miss a beat."
Wells was 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs and earned tournament MVP honors for the now 21-0 Panthers. Perry, James Bowen and Dylan deWit were also named to the all-tourney team.
Sutter 3, Marysville 1
The Huskies took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh and held off a rally attempt from the Indians to win their final game at the Shasta Lake Bass Tournament.
Quentin Hick was 1 for 3 with a two-run double in the seventh and Lucas Cryer pitched a complete game for the Huskies (13-4).
SOFTBALL
East Nicolaus 13, Biggs 0
Amanda Taylor tallied 10 strikeouts while tossing a two-hit shutout and went 2 for 3 at the plate to lead the Spartans to a Mid-Valley League victory over the Wolverines at home.
The game was called after 41⁄2 innings due to the 10-run rule.
Brianna Gaytan went 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, Shelby Wilson was 2 for 3 with a double and Sierra Lehman went 2 for 3 as well for the Spartans (10-8, 5-0).

Medalists Taylor Brown and Riley Horan each shot a 41 at Yolo Fliers Golf Club to lead the Honkers to a TCC win on the road.
Yuba City (6-8, 6-5) takes on cross-town foe River Valley on May 2 at Coyote Run Golf Course at Beale Air Force Base.
JV SOFTBALL
Marysville 16, Lindhurst 6
Brandy Gilliam was 4 for 5 with a double and Mackensey Pike went 3 for 5 with a triple to help lift the Indians to a GEL win over the Blazers.
Morgan Cowen-Fayter was 3 for 5 with a double for Marysville (10-11, 5-0).
JV TRACK & FIELD
RV girls move to 3-1 in TCC
The River Valley JV girls team improved to 3-1 in TCC dial meets with a 58-41 victory over Inderkum.
Liz Gordon won the 800 (3:22.7) and 1600 (7:31.9), Natalie Kennedy placed first in the discus (59-6) and shot put (18-9) and Allie Honig won the high jump (4-0) to lead the way for the Falcons.
