Prep Roundup: Vaitautolu powers Lindhurst past Orland
Brandon Vaitautolu had 186 yards on 26 carries and three touchdowns to lead the Lindhurst High football team to a 29-22 victory over host Orland on Friday night.
The score was locked at 14-14 heading in to the final quarter. Michael Donald had an interception in the fourth to change the game around for the Blazers. Vaitautolu then scored a pair of touchdowns to round out the scoring for the Blazers.
Earlier in the game, Kristian George intercepted a pass after a Trojan punt was botched.
The Blazers move to 1-1 on the season.
Williams 23, Maxwell 20
Jose Rodriguez booted a 36-yard field goal with 11 seconds to play, redeeming himself after three misses, and lifting Williams to a road win over rival Maxwell.
"He told me he didn't want to go out there for the fourth kick," Yellowjackets coach Dan McDonald said of his senior kicker. "But I told him I had confidence in him."
McDonald also told his players at halftime that they were going to win the game on a field goal.
"I just didn't think it would take four tries," McDonald said.
Williams (2-0) rallied from a pair of two-touchdown deficits to hand the Panthers (0-1) a season-opening loss.
East Nicolaus 21, Rio Vista 14
Josh Wilson finished with 231 rushing yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns to lead the Spartans to a road victory.
Tou Khang had 15 tackles and Allan DePrato had three sacks.
Nick Borcher caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Justin Ozcan and also had an interception in the win for East Nicolaus (2-0).
Hamilton 14, Pierce 0
With six starters out with injuries, the Bears fell apart early in the first quarter of the road game.
Mike Villanueva tallied only 24 yards rushing in the loss for Pierce (1-1).
