Roundup: Hammond, Crosby take first at NU Invite

River Valley High's Kym Crosby placed first in the 200-meter race at the Nevada Union Invitational on Friday, clocking in with a time of 26.432-seconds, a mere 0.005-seconds ahead of Lindhurst's Raquel Hammond

Crosby also placed first in the 400 (58.70) and Hammond was first in the 100 (12.7).

Jurrell Davis placed fifth in the 800 (2:04) and the 1,500 (4:33) and Nick McCoubrey was 10th in the 300 hurdles (44.71) for the Blazers.

Marysville's Alexis Grove placed third in the triple jump (32-1) and sixth in the long jump (15-2.75). She also helped the 400 relay team of Jasmine Alson, Alana Grove and Stephanie Anderson to an eighth-place finish (53.58).

Danielle Perrin was fourth in the shot (33-2), Robert Williamson finished seventh in the 300 hurdles (43.44) and Muzammal Khan was eighth in the triple jump (41-3) for the Indians

River Valley' Amandeep Singh took fourth in the 800 (2:02.22), while Brandon Johnson took 11th in the 110 hurdles (17.88), 14th in the 300 hurdles (46.57), 24th in the 400 (55.68) and 29th in the shotput (34-9).

Joy Borremeo was 24th in the 300 (56.21) and Dustin Smith was 28th in the shot (35-7) for the Falcons.

BASEBALL

Faith Chr. 11, Lutheran 3

Daniel Atkins went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored as Faith Christian won its final regular season game at Lutheran of Sacramento.

Josh Dunham went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Chris Harmon notched a triple in the Sacramento Metropolitan Athletic League game.

The Lions (10-7, 8-4) face Brookside Christian, champions of the Harvest Christian League, in a Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII first-round playoff game at Galt on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Hamilton 2, East Nicolaus 1

East Nicolaus' Brian Johnson had 12 strikeouts in the completion of Monday's rainout at Hamilton.

John Kukuruda hit a double for the Spartans (22-2, 9-1), who should be the top seed when the Northern Section playoffs begin on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Lindhurst 5, Sacramento 2

Lindhurst's Jordan Stanaland struck out 14 in a complete-game win over Sacramento in the Blazers' final game of the season.

Morgan Thome went 2-for-3 with a triple, Delaney Thome hit 2-for-3 with a double and Daydra Martinez hit a double in the nonleague game for the host Blazers, who finish the season 11-15-1 overall and 6-4 in the Golden Empire League.

The Lindhurst junior varsity beat the Dragons 14-0.

TENNIS

Farinha and Lepeau advance to sections

Wheatland's Larry Farinha won three singles matches but fell in the semifinals at the Butte View League tournament.

In doubles, the team of Farinha and Theo Lepeau won three matches but fell in the finals to their Orland opponents.

Lepeau, Tyler Zepp and Marko Sohrakoff each won their first singles matches.

In doubles, Tyler and Derek Zepp upset Las Plumas' and Sutter's No. 1 teams to get to the semifinals.

Sohrakoff and Steffen Wagman won their first-round matches in doubles.

Farinha received all-league honors in singles and in doubles with partner Lepeau. The Zepp brothers also were voted all-league as a doubles team for the Pirates.

Farinha and Lepeau advance to sections next Saturday.

YUBA COLLEGE

Pole vaulter Mathis takes 8th

Tom Mathis placed eighth in the pole vaulting event at the NorCal Community College Finals at Diablo Valley College on Friday.

The freshman reached a height of 12-feet, 3-inches but will not advance the state meet.
