Roundup: Turner powers Sutter High track and field

Dane Turner placed fourth in the pole vault event with a height of 14-feet to lead the Sutter High track and field varsity boys team at the West Valley Invitational on Friday.

He also finished fourth in the 100-meter race with a time of 11.72-seconds.

Leszek Ratajczak was fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.62) and fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.03). Bentley Nunes finished eighth in the 3200 (10:28.55) and ninth in the 1600 (43.91).

The team of Grant Campbell, Jon Garcia, Justin Gildemeister and Turner placed second in the 400 relay (45.26).

Carissa Allard, Brooke O'Neill, Lindsey Moore and Mallory Hilbers finished fifth in the 400 relay (53,20) for the varsity girls division.

Davis, Johnson lead Lindhurst

Lurrell Johnson finished first in the 200 (23.01) and Jurrell Davis finished first in the 800 (2:05.59) against 13 schools at the Colfax Invitational on Friday.

Nelson Valdez took fourth in the 100 (11.64) and Nick McCoubrey placed sixth in 300 hurdles (46.73) to round out the varsity boys.

The varsity girls were led by Raquel Hammond, who won the 100 (13.04) and 200 (26.98), while Ariel Caporale took sixth in discus.

The frosh-sophomore boys finished third overall thanks to Jarrade Davis' first-place finish in the 400 (55.69) and second-place finish in the 800 (2:13.39). Diego Villasenor took second in the 3200 (12:03.66), Matthew Kearns placed third in the 300 hurdles (46.49) and both relay teams took second and third.

Tyler Peck was the low man for the Indians with a 42 at the Cold Springs Golf Course last week.

FROSH-SOPH TRACK & FIELD

Hammill out front for YC

Trevor Hammill took second place in the 800 (2:12) for the boys division at the Pleasant Valley Invitational on Friday. The team of Reed Cook, Evan German, Jordan Hunt and Hammill placed fourth in the 1600 relay (3:50.1).

Jose Guzman finished fifth in the 3200 (11:48) and Rodney Dunn was sixth in the discus (109-8).

For the girls division, Cindy Haymore finished second in the 200 (28.59) and eighth in the 100 (14.2).

Angela Markus took fourth in the high jump (4-4).

HERSHEY TRACK MEET

Trey Slade was the champion of three events at the Eighth annual Hershey Meet on Saturday.

He won the 50-meter dash with a time of 8.08 seconds in the boys 9-10 year-old age group. He also won the 100 (15.43) and the weight throw. Chase Tarr won the 200 (32.95) and the 400 (75.81).

In the 11-12 division, Bruce Anderson won the 100 (13.99) and the 200 (29.91). Dante Love placed first in the 400 (66.59) and the 800 (2:42.57). Devin Cates won the long jump and Clarence Pierson won the weight throw.

In the boys 13-14 age group, Joe Valrey won the 100 (13.56) and the 200 (28.44). Mark Nelson was the winner in the long jump and the weight throw.

In the girls 9-10 year-old age group, Elisse White won the 100 (15.75) and the 200 (33.92).

Other winners were Victoria Ponce (50 dash, 8.49); Kylee Bremmer (400, 78.77); Rachel Reyna (long jump) and Rebekkah McLaughlin (weight throw).

In the 11-12 age group, Bri Kunkle won the 200 (29.84), 400 (65.62) and the long jump.

Cierra Nelson was the champion of the weight throw. Lauren won the 800 (2:43.98) and Morgan McIntyre won the 100 (15.49).

In the 13-14 division, Alissa Burdick and Jenna Lewis won two events each.

Burdick got wins in the long jump and the 100 (14.33). Lewis won the 200 (29.72) and the weight throw. Jackie Koch won the 800 (2:54.18).

In the girls 6-8 group, Melvina Bradford won the 50 (9.56) and the 100 (18.81). Maddison Kunle won the long jump.

In the boys division, Cory McIntyre won the 50 (9.32) and the weight throw. John Kroeger won the long jump.

WRESTLING

The Yuba Sutter Combat competed at the Sacramento Area Wrestling Association championships over teh weekend.

Ramon Campos (60) and Arsenio Ayala (65) and Austin Morehead (215) each won the free and greco.

Gage Kim (70), Hiawatha Miles (80) and Jesse Chambers each placed first in free and second in greco.

Julian Kim (75) was the champion in greco and third in free. Alex Campos (140) finished second in both and Chase Gildea (170) was second in free.

Nick Fisher won the 45-pound weight class for the freestyle competition.

Jimmy Heryford took home first place at the West Coast Nationals in the 50- and 55-pound weight classes.
