Roundup: Yuba edges Comets
Roberto Saavedra, Olumide Coker, Rasheed Razzada and Burnell Barmore took fourth place in the 440-meter shuttle high hurdles relay with a time of 1:12.28 on Saturday at the Amador Relays in Sutter Creek.
The 400 relay team of Taylor Rowe, Abraham Barajas, Barmore and Coker finished second (46.07).
Wonwyne Hale placed second in the shotput (31-5) to lead the varsity firls team. The 3,200 relay team of Jessica Soto, Liliana Pinedo, Miranda Alfaro and Alyssa Garnica finished sixth (12:35.26).
Rodney Dunn led the Yuba City High track varsity boys team to a 79-42 victory over Natomas on Thursday. Dunn won the discus (117-1), shotput (36-11) and the high jump (5-8).
Coker won the 100-meter race (11.0). Coker also took first in the 200 (2:15) and finished second in the long jump (19-4).
Senior Razzada won the 800 (2:16).
The varsity girls team won 72-46. Hale took firsts in the shot put (31-5) and the discus (82-3). Katie Haymore won the high jump (4-4) and the triple jump (28-8).
Alfaro won the 3,200 (16:08) and took second in the 1,600 (6:57). Annabel Mendoza won the long jump (14-0) and took second in the 100 hurdles (19.1). Jasmine Visla won the 1,600 (6:46) and placed second in the 800 (3:02). Jessica Soto won the 100 hurdles (19.1).
In the Frosh/Soph division, Reed Cook placed first in the 300 hurdles (45.5) and the triple jump (34-5) to help the Honkers to a 84-21 win. Abraham Barajas won the 400 (62.8). Roberto Saavedra finished first in the 110 high hurdles (20.6).
Arjun Bhungal won the 800 (2:38) and the high jump (4-10). Elias Adame won the 1600 (5:49) and Victor Ly was first in the discus (98-8) for the Honkers.
RV's Crosby places at Glenn Poole
Kym Crosby placed third in the 400 with a time of 59.34 at the Glenn Poole Invitational at Oakmont High School on Saturday for the varsity girls.
She also placed seventh in the 200 (26.07) and ninth in the 100 (13.02). Sophomore Vanessa Kennedy finished eigth in the 300 hurdles (53.92).
For the varsity boys, Amandeep Singh finished fourth in the 800 (2:01.69).
DeForest ties down win
Wheatland's Chant DeForest won the tie-down roping event for District 3 at the California High School Rodeo Challenge of Champions over the weekend with an average time of 22.98.
Live Oak's Joshua Garner placed second in the steer wrestling event (11.03), fifth in tie-down roping (27.26) and seventh in bull riding (68).
Cody Panero, of Penn Valley, was second in bull riding (134).
Marysville swimming rolls
Maxine Baker won the 200-yard freestyle (2:44.91) and the 500 freestyle (7:38.91) to help the Indians to a 5-0 sweep at the Golden Empire League meet. Chistine Chiono won the 200 individial medley (2:44.59) and the 100 butterfly (1:13.21).
Samantha Baker got wins in the 100 freestyle (1:17.31) and the 100 breaststroke (1:39.72). Brianna Cameron won the 100 backstroke (1:35.93) and Haley Sanchez won the 50 freestyle (39.31).
The team of Maxine Baker, Samantha Baker, Chiono and Cameron won the 200 medley relay (2:31.66) and the 400 freestyle relay (5:01.77). In the 200 freestlye, the team of Madelyn Kirin, Rebecca Stovall, Sanchez and Ashley McDonald won with a time of 2:33.85.
The varsity boys team went 3-2 at the meet.
Double winners for the Indians were Jared Woods (200 IM, 2:37.17) and (backstroke, 1:12.97); Bodhi Yeaton (100 butterfly, 1:00.52) and (100 breaststroke, 1:15.49); Dylan Stanbury (50 freestyle, 26.06) and (100 freestyle, 1:03.39); Jacob Young (500 freestyle, 7:47.35) and (200 freestyle, 2:47.19).
In relays, the team of Woods, Yeaton, Stanbury and Young won the 200 medley (2:06.96). Cameron Kraus, Woods, Hayden Baker and Yeaton won the 200 freestyle (1:57.78).
The team of Young, Kraus, Baker and Stanbury were victorious in the 400 freestyle (4:48.36).
Morehead takes 12th in nation
Sutter's Austin Morehead placed 12th overall in the 193-pound weight class at the National High School Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia over the weekend.
Morehead finished with a 5-2 record at the four-day tournament and had a record of 54-4 on the season.
Ben Gacayan (128) finished 2-2 and Justin Gildemeister (138) went 1-2 for the Huskies.
