Throw them the darn ball
When Portola head coach Steve Heskett was asked why he didn't carry any Lindhurst High football players on the Lions All-Star South team this year, he responded, "I never had any nominations. It's a shame because they usually have a few good athletes down there."
That couldn't be any more true than in 2010.
Sixteen potential receivers make it so.
It was a no-brainer for coach Mike Mason; he moved to the Spread offense.
"We have a very good group of wide receivers. They're definitely a strength on our team right now," he said.
It's starts with Miguel French, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound wideout. Include fleet-footed Jarrade and Jurrell Davis into the mix (both 6-2, 185 pounds) and Mason has three juniors who have the potential to break one at any time.
Inderkum senior transfer Marquis Daughton (5-11, 170) and junior Michael Hubbard (5-11, 155) will also be lined up in the coach's offensive scheme.
And with Christian George (junior, 5-11, 200) getting the primary nod at quarterback, Mason is excited to see his offense in action.
"Christian has a very good arm and has nice size for a quarterback," he said.
