Greg Baker

Baker resigns at Gridley

Gridley High is looking for a new football coach, again.

The Appeal-Democrat has learned that Greg Baker announced his resignation last month, after just one season at the helm of the Bulldog program.

The reason for his resignation is unclear.

"He resigned for personal reasons more than anything else," said Gridley principal Joan Zappettini, who said the school will begin looking for a new coach in the next few weeks. "The total process usually takes about four to six weeks."

Baker, who replaced six-year head coach Tim Cox, declined to comment during a phone conversation on Saturday.

Zappettini expects the school to hire a new coach by early March.

The Bulldogs opened the season with six straight losses before coming away with a 21-6 win over Las Plumas. They finished the season 1-9.
