Prep Roundup: Yuba City's Brown wins D-III golf championship

It was a good day on the links for Yuba City High's Taylor Brown.

The senior golfer took home the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III individual championship on Monday at Plumas Lake Golf & Country Club in Olivehurst by shooting a 73, only two strokes over par.

Brown bested a field of 66 and earned a trip to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament, which will be held on Monday, May 16 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton.

In team competition, River Valley placed sixth with a team score of 462.

Lucas Vaughn carded an 80 to lead the Falcons. Steven Spatafore shot an 86, William Jow shot a 95 and Jordan Davis finished with a 96.

El Camino and Lincoln were the top two teams and will play in the Masters Tournament.

Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs

Placer 5, Marysville 2

A solid season for Marysville's tennis program ended on Monday in Auburn in the second round of the postseason.

Armando Montejano was the Indians' lone winner in singles with a straight sets 6-4, 6-4 win.

The sister tandem of Courtney and Michelle Ngai picked up the other point for the Indians with a 7-6, 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles.

BOYS TENNIS

Lions advance to sectionals

Four members of the Live Oak tennis team earned bids to the Northern Section championships in Redding.

Pardeep Cheema, Parjinder Toor, and Daljot Singh each earned a spot in both singles and doubles for the Lions. Andrew Avalos will compete in doubles.

Cheema, Toor, and Singh were All-Sacramento Valley League picks in both singles and doubles, while Avalos was all-league in doubles. Jesus Medina was All-SVL in singles.

The Lions begin team competition in the playoffs against Wheatland today.
