Prep Roundup: Marysville softball blanks Lindhurst
Ashten Welch tossed a one-hitter in five innings of work to help the Marysville High softball team shut out Golden Empire League rival Lindhurst 11-0 at home on Monday.
Welch also went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, while Danielle Ferrari drove in five runs on a 2 for 2 plate performance. Tressa Arostegui went 3 for 4 with a double for Marysville, which improved to 5-1 in league and 10-5 overall.
BASEBALL
Faith Christian 15, Lutheran 8
Chris Harmon did it all for the Lions.
The senior pitched four innings of relief with eight strikeouts, went 3 for 5 at the plate, and the Lions won their first game of the season in Elk Grove.
Harmon only allowed two hits on the mound and at the plate he knocked in two runs, doubled and picked up an inside-the-park home run. He also stole two bases.
Blake Lavin went 2 for 4 with a double. Sam Ithurburn finished 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and he stole five bases.
Mark Thorpe was 2 for 4 and also swiped five bags for the Lions (1-7, 1-4).
GOLF
Woodland 240, River Valley 243
Steven Spatafore shot a 40 at Coyote Run Golf Course, but the Falcons took three strokes too many against Woodland.
Lucas Vaughn carded a 42 and William Jow added a 49 for River Valley, which is now 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the Tri-County Conference.
The Falcons junior varsity squad dropped their match with Rio Americano, 236-202, at Haggin Oaks Municipal Golf Course in Sacramento.
Kyle Gash carded a low score of 53 for the Falcons (2-5) and Dan Bergum shot a 56.
Marysville takes third
Logan Brown and Dory Karcher each shot an 89 to lead the Indians to a third-place finish at a Golden Empire League match at Teal Bend Golf Course.
TENNIS
Marysville 5, Dixon 4
The Indians (10-3, 8-2) ended their regular season with a second-place finish in the Golden Empire League after a win against the Rams.
In No. 2 girls singles, Annie Lin won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
In girls doubles, Courtney and Michelle Ngai won 10-1, while the team of Sara Eckardt and Brianna Lewis won 10-3.
Terry Prince and Jim Vang won 10-6 in boys doubles and Craig Staples teamed with Debbie Lor to win in mixed doubles, 10-3.
The GEL singles tournament is set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Marysville and the league doubles tourney is on Saturday. Playoffs begin at the end of the month.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Solano 14, Yuba 4
The 49ers surrendered 20 hits and Solano left-hander Kenton Bevacqua (River Valley High) pitched six effective innings to pick up the Bay Valley Conference win in Fairfield.
Lindhurst High product AZ Sutton went 2 for 4 for the 49ers (9-19, 5-12). Joe Garcia finished 3 for 4 and Chris Stocker went 2 for 3 for Yuba.
