YUBA COLLEGE: 49er softball sweeps Marin

A week and a half away from the playing field didn't seem to cool off the Yuba College softball team on Monday afternoon.

River Valley High graduate Rachel Quinn fired a two-hit shutout to lead the 49ers to a 1-0 victory in game one and Yuba's offense exploded for an 11-0 victory in game two to sweep a Bay Valley Conference doubleheader over Marin at home.

The two victories upped the Niners' record to 11-10 overall and a perfect 4-0 in BVC play.

Quinn led the charge in the opener by striking out 14 in a complete-game shutout. Yuba's lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Colusa product Emiley Correa doubled. She was replaced on the basepaths by Yuba City alumnus Shae Cooney, who came around to score on an error in what proved to be the game-winner.

The 49ers' bats erupted in the second game.

Yuba won after just four and a half innings.

Live Oak alum Lyndsey Odom-Sizemore went 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored and Robin Lowery was 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and scored twice to lead the offensive charge.

Quinn and Marysville grad McKenzie Kraus both smacked two hits and drove in a run for the 49ers, who scored at least one run in each inning.

Quinn and Kraus also combined for six strikeouts while allowing just two hits from the circle.
