YUBA ROUNDUP: Lady Niners sweep doubleheader
The Yuba College softball team is starting things off right in the Bay Valley Conference.
The 49ers swept a doubleheader from Napa Valley College on Thursday with a standout effort from River Valley High graduate Rachel Quinn.
Quinn threw a complete-game shutout in the 49ers' 7-0 victory in game one of the twinbill.
She struck out 11 batters and only gave up four hits. At the plate she was 2 for 4, knocked in two runs and scored once.
In game two, the Niners prevailed 6-3 as Quinn struck out seven and was 2 for 4.
Live Oak product Lyndsey Odom-Sizemore was 3 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Lindhurst alumnus Morgan Thome was 3 for 4 with three RBIs for the 49ers (9-10, 2-0).
Yuba resumes BVC play on Tuesday at Contra Costa.
BASEBALL
Napa Valley 4, Yuba 1
The 49ers could only amass four hits at Gary Engelken Field against Napa left-handed starter Joey Evans, who pitched a complete game.
"He did a decent job of keeping us off-balance," said Yuba coach Erick Burns.
Lindhurst alum AZ Sutton was 2 for 3 with an the 49ers' lone RBI.
River Valley grad Ivan Lamas pitched seven innings for Yuba (4-11, 0-3) with four strikeouts and he only allowed one earned run.
Yuba will seek its first BVC victory on Saturday at home against Contra Costa.
