LOCAL WRESTLING: Pirates place second at Jason White Memorial
It was a good day for the Wheatland High wrestling program on Saturday.
The Pirates placed second as a team with 156 points and five individuals took home silver medals at the 15th annual Jason White Memorial Tournament at Lindhurst High.
Alex Lopez placed second in the 115-pound division. Other silver medalists included Alex Luttrell (147), Kalan Hastey (162), Taylor DeLozier (172) and Tyler Larcom (197).
Emiliano Gomez (108) took bronze. Mikey Hawkins (154) and Andrew Gonzalez (heavyweight) each placed fifth for Wheatland.
Yuba City had two wrestlers place second as well en route to a fourth-place finish with 124 points.
Seniors Spencer Malugani (128) and Christian Diaz (heavyweight) earned silver medals in the tournament.
The Honkers had four other wrestlers take fourth: Brandon Pierce (115), Gavin Benbow (140), Shannon Casaulong (154) and Westley McMahon (220).
The host Blazers took sixth place with 93 points.
Christian George (220) was Lindhurst's top performer with a second-place finish.
Brandon Mason (195) took fourth, while John Nichols (172) and Manny Juarez (126) both placed fifth.
Armante Gonzalez (148) and Richard Yanez (182) each took sixth.
Three River Valley grapplers were bronze medalists, helping the Falcons to an eighth-place finish as a team.
Timmy Webb (152), Logan Morace (170) and Conner Wick (195) all posted 3-1 records in their respective weight classes for third place.
Jordan Davis (182, 4th), Dalton Dazo (126, 7th) and Karm Saran (170, 8th) rounded out the scoring for River Valley.
Jonathan Villapania (140) and Haiden Johnson (115) each took third in their division to lead Gridley. Noel Tinoco (225) placed sixth.
Marysville's top individual was 108-pounder Kao Thao, who took fourth.
JV WRESTLING
Huskies compete in Chico
Jace Heryford (108), Riley Vickner (155) and Trevor Holt (222) all went undefeated to lead the Huskies at the Chico JV tournament.
Chase Miles (128), Tyler Chambers (134), Aiden Lang (172) and Danny Bogert (196) all won bronze.
