PREP ROUNDUP: Pirate grapplers best Blazers

The Wheatland High wrestling team is hot heading into Saturday when the Pirates will host the 26-team Christopher Saavedra Memorial Tournament.

The Pirates bested Yuba County rival Lindhurst 51-27 on Wednesday night with eight grapplers winning by pin.

In the 170-pound weight class, senior Taylor DeLozier pinned his opponent for the victory.

Also winning by pin were Emiliano Gomez (113), Alex Lopez (120), Jacob Welson (126), Alex Luttrell (145), Mikey Hawkins (152), Kalan Hastey (160) and Kaden Perkins (182).

Ryan Whiteley won his bout by decision in the 138-pound matchup.

Wheatland's JV team won 10 of its 11 bouts in its victory over the Blazers.

Inderkum 66, Marysville 12

Kao Thao (113) and Matt Ackerson (170) both won by pin, but the Indians fell to the Tigers on the road.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

River Valley 51, Gridley 29

Aleqse Hawkins tallied 14 points, nine steals and eight rebounds to lead the Falcons to a nonleague victory over the Bulldogs at Farmer's Hall in Gridley.

Amrita Dale scored 11 points, Jackie Koch had 10 and Taylor Massengale pulled down 13 rebounds for River Valley (4-3).

The Falcons' JV team (4-3) was also victorious, topping the Bulldogs 44-36.

Sarah Wirrig scored 16 points and Jagreet Gosal added 13.

River Valley's freshman team also won 37-35.

Courtney Massengale had eight points and 10 rebounds and Meaghan Bains added eight points and nine steals in the win for the Falcons (7-0).

BOYS SOCCER

Sutter 6, Anderson 0

Sam Ruxton picked up a hat trick to lead the Huskies (7-3-1) to a non-league victory on the road over the Cubs.

J.D. Wilhelm, Jonathan Zavala and Anthony Ramirez all scored goals for Sutter.

Coach Gurdeep Bhattal credited Logan Zigenmeyer, Franklin Tarke, Mike McPeters and Ricardo Navarro with outstanding defense. Goalkeeper Jeff Mackensen recorded the shutout

GIRLS SOCCER

Sutter 4, Anderson 0

Erika Linch followed up Tuesday's four-goal showing with a hat trick against the Cubs, her seventh game with at least three or more goals.

Taylor Heryford scored the Huskies' (8-1) fourth goal.

Jayden Garcia had two assists and Madison Gonzales also made an assist.

Devan Reische made four saves in the shutout and Jenna Lewis played great defense along with Andrea Little.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Nevada Union 60, Yuba City 44

Tanner McAlister scored 12 points and Arandeep Dhillion had six points, 12 rebounds and four blocks, but the Honkers (3-6) dropped their nonleague game at Nevada Union.
