PREP ROUNDUP: R.V. boys win 6th straight

Manik Thiara scored a team-high 26 points and the River Valley High boys basketball team picked up its sixth straight victory by edging Laguna Creek 64-62 in a nonleague contest at home on Thursday night.

Anthony Boykin chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds, Gurkaran Singh added nine points and five boards and Jake Phillips had seven points and six rebounds in the win.

Gregory Cannon also pulled down seven rebounds for the Falcons (12-3), who play at Bear River today at 7 p.m. in their final tune-up before starting Tri-County Conference play next week.

Gridley 52, Paradise 47

Kevin Mattos dropped in a team-high 15 points and Emery Haddy added nine to lead the Bulldogs to a win in the opening round of the Dennis Burnum Classic in Oroville.

Aaron Medina scored seven points and Alex Medina and Mat Scott chipped in with six each for Gridley (6-8), which will play Chico today at 6:30 p.m.

Pierce 68, Princeton 39

Oscar Dorantes scored 23 points, Andy Corona added 17 and the Bears cruised by Princeton at the Biggs Tournament.

With the win, Pierce improved to 5-3 overall.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Live Oak 37, Maxwell 26

Amyah Clark scored 15 points and Paulina Heredia added eight to help lift the Lady Lions past the Panthers on the opening day of the Love of the Game Invitational in East Nicolaus.

Live Oak (8-3) will play Pierce today at 7 p.m. in the second round of the tournament.

East Nicolaus 46, Pierce 34

Mikayla Rolufs netted a team-high 12 points and the host Spartans bounced back from Tuesday's setback to River Valley by beating the Bears at the Love of the Game Invitational.

Denise Kendrick had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Darleen Herrin added 11 points and 11 rebounds for East Nicolaus (12-1), which will play Maxwell today at 11:30 a.m.

Placer 65, Yuba City 34

Money Kaur tallied a team-high 11 points, but the Honkers fell to visiting Placer at Honker Gym. Brittany White and Tiffany Friend added nine points each in the loss for Yuba City (5-10).

River Valley 63, Lincoln 55

Klarissa Gonzalez scored 17 points, Aleqse Hawkins added 10 points and four steals and the Lady Falcons picked up a road victory to improve to 11-4.

Taylor Massengale added 10 rebounds in the victory.

Colusa 63, Esparto 34

Katie Mobley dropped 24 points and 17 rebounds to help overpower Esparto at home, improving the team's record to 10-2.

Emily Mobley added 15 points with 12 rebounds, Paige Townzen had eight points, five rebounds and three steals and Cheyenne Rogers chipped in six points with 13 rebounds.

JV BOYS BASKETBALL

Maxwell 52, Live Oak 27

Lareb Khan scored nine points as the Lions (1-5) fell to the Panthers at the Love of the Game Invitational in East Nicolaus.

Santiago Gonzalez scored 12 points to lead the way for Maxwell.

Faith Christian 66, Sacramento Adventist 44

Drew Tollenar had 19 points and seven rebounds and Justin Glen finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and 13 steals to lead the Lions (3-4) to a win at Sacramento Adventist.

River Valley 48, Laguna Creek 41

TJ Dove scored 14 points, Quincy Fulton added 10 and Gurtej Singh chipped in nine points at home for the Falcons, who improved to 9-5 overall.

Wheatland 65, Colusa 35

Taylor Balogi scored 22 points, Jordan Samson had 14 points at home and the Pirates improved to 7-5 overall.

JV GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pierce 48, East Nicolaus 30

Sara Sullivan scored 20 points and Shelby Miller added four, but the host Spartans (1-9) fell to the Bears on the first day of the Love of the Game Invitational.

Placer 45, Yuba City 20

Hannah Heitman scored nine points in the home loss for the Lady Honkers, which dropped to 8-6 overall.

River Valley 44, Lincoln 42

Jagreet Gosal led the Lady Falcons (10-4) with 14 points, while Ashlie Millington and Harkiren Everest each added eight points to help edge Lincoln on the road.

Colusa 26, Esparto 20

The Lady RedHawks' Sally Loeza scored seven points, Ashley Ornbaun added six and the Colusa picked up its second win of the season.

FROSH BOYS BASKETBALL

River Valley 76, Davis 62

Rohin Basi scored 21 points and Jasdeep Dhatt dropped in 12 to lead the Falcons to a victory over the Blue Devils at home.

Sarbjot Dail added 11 points and Devin Cates finished with 10 for River Valley (11-2).

Wheatland 64, Yreka 52

John Scruggs scored 25, Dylan Cooper added 12 points and the Pirates improved to 5-5 with a win at the Orland Tournament.

FROSH GIRLS BASKETBALL

Placer 38, Yuba City 28

Alisha Aery and Megan Lockhart each scored 10 points for the Lady Honkers in the home loss. Lockhart pulled down 15 rebounds for Yuba City (8-3).
