Gold Sox win another one

Streak goes to 33 straight

The Marysville Gold Sox extended their win streak to 33 games after topping the Redding Colt .45s 5-2 at Appeal-Democrat Park on Thursday.

The Gold Sox have won their first 13 games of the season and have carried the torch from the 2011 team, which closed the summer on a 20-game win streak.

For the second consecutive game, Victor Romero hit a home run.

He singled and scored in the first inning to record the game's first run. He was driven home on a double by Colby Harrison, who scored on a hit from Casey Scott. Brooke Brooks drove in Scott to complete the scoring in the first inning, giving the Gold Sox a 3-0 lead.

Marysville recorded 11 hits in the game, one of which began the fifth inning by Brooks, who would score on a Kyle Davis single. Romero then blasted his second home run of the season to give the Gold Sox a 5-1 lead.

Starting pitcher Nick Hudson was very solid and picked up his third win of the year. Brandon Creel picked up his second save of the season after striking out three of the final five batters.

The Sox will play the Colt .45s again tonight, Saturday and Sunday, before playing six more games in seven days beginning in Arcata on Tuesday.
