ALL-AREA: Young guns Estrada, Martin and Spatafore are par for the course

Trio named A-D Golfers of the Year

Three Mid-Valley area golfers were selected as the Appeal-Democrat's 2012 All-Area Golfers of the Year.

The ceiling is high for all three players as they are all underclassmen.

Sophomore Steven Spatafore was an integral part of River Valley High's golf program this season.

Spatafore held down the Falcons' No. 1 spot all season where he led River Valley to the first Tri-County Conference championship in program history. The Falcons went undefeated.

He was an All-TCC selection and just missed qualifying for the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet by three strokes, besting all local players.

Also a force in the TCC this season, Yuba City freshman Connor Estrada showed that size doesn't matter.

Despite his 5-foot-4, 125-pound frame, Estrada averages 280 yards off the tee and was the Honkers' No. 1 golfer this season.

An All-TCC selection, he was medalist at eight different tournaments for Yuba City, including the low score at the final TCC tournament of the season.

Rounding out this trio is Marysville freshman Zachary Martin.

Like Estrada, Martin packs a punch in a small package.

He was the Indians' lone All-Golden Empire League selection and helped lead Marysville to a second-place finish in the GEL this season.

He was also the Indians' low man at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V tournament.

Martin attends Marysville's Charter Academy.
