LITTLE LEAGUE: Sutter Area softball wins championship

The Sutter Area major softball team wrapped up the District 2 championship with a 13-1 victory over Olivehurst-Linda at Peach Bowl Little League Park in Yuba City on Sunday night.

Sutter Area ended the tournament with a 5-0 record and won by 10 runs or more in three of those games.

Members of the team are: Katie Anderson, Sam Anderson, Chloe Bell, Juliana Capaul, Sydnee Condrey, Brianna Cooper, Lexi DeLozier, Isabella Malan, Bailey Minton, Emily Smoot, Claire Swartz and Julia Tarke.

Sutter Area will now head to the regional tournament on Sunday in Martinez.

Olivehurst-Linda 13, Sutter Buttes 12

Olivehurst-Linda advanced to the title game by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off victory over Sutter Buttes on Saturday night.

Leading the way for O-L was Camille Nacarelli, who finished the game 2 for 3 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs scored while pitching a complete game. Mariah Glassgow went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Izabella Terry was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI in the victory.

Chelsea Chandler went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Phoebe Topete was 2 for 4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the way for Sutter Buttes.

Caylee Williams finished 2 for 4, Morgan Macy doubled and drove in two runs and Monique Villanvencio doubled as well in the loss.

MINOR SOFTBALL

Peach Bowl 7, Colusa 0

Blake Craft threw a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and Peach Bowl won the District 2 title with a win over Colusa on Saturday in Wheatland.

Chloe Smotherman singled and scored two runs and Kami Maxhem was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored for Peach Bowl, which went a perfect 4-0 at the tournament.

MAJOR BASEBALL

Marysville 11, Southshore 0

Chase Tarr went 2 for 4 with an RBI and Matthew Chiono added two hits while throwing five shutout innings as Marysville opened tournament play with an easy win over Southshore at Perry Field in Sutter on Saturday night.

Kelseyville 7, Olivehurst-Linda 6

Keagan Jordan and Angelo Deleon both went 2 for 3 with two runs scores, but O-L came up a run short in its tournament opener in Sutter on Saturday night.

North Yuba 16, Westside 1

Taylor Lake, Mason Severson and Justin Walsh combined to score seven runs and Kase Witt allowed just one run over four innings as North Yuba kicked off the tournament with an easy win over Westshore on Saturday.

Peach Bowl 11, Colusa 4

Nick Ali went 4 for 4 with four runs scored and Bryce Rogers finished 4 for 4 and scored three times to lead Peach Bowl past Colusa in a first-round game on Saturday.

Ali and Sean O'Leary also combined on the hill to record the victory for Peach Bowl.

Zack Dillard finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored to provide the offense for Colusa.

Sutter Buttes 12, Wheatland 2

Riley Bell, Auston Popp and Zach Ellsworth scored two runs each as Sutter Buttes topped Wheatland in an opening-round game on Saturday.

Ellsworth and Blake Baca also combined for five strikeouts and allowed just two hits in the win.

Daniel Wilson and Frank Spencer both singled for Wheatland.

Marysville 12, Westside 0

Phil Apodaca scored four runs and Gary Cooper added two more to help lift Marysville over Westside in a second-round game on Sunday night.

Oscar Sauceda and Chad Candler combined to fire a no-hitter for Marysville, which opened the tournament with back-to-back shutouts.

Colusa 18, Westside 5

Ethan Remmers had a big day at the plate by going 4 for 5 with four runs scored to power Colusa past Westside in an elimination game on Sunday night.

Lucas Davison went 2 for 4 and scored twice in the win.

Preston Jones singled for Westside.

Sutter Area 10, Kelseyville 6

Isaiah Hamm finished 3 for 4 and scored twice as host Sutter Area opened its tournament with a victory over Kelseyville on Sunday night.

Hamm pitched the first four innings to record the win and Riley Dollins, Todd Carr and Garett Sheffield were solid in relief in the win for Sutter Area.

Sutter Buttes 12, Live Oak 0

Logan Meyers and Riley Bell teamed up to fire a no-hitter and Sutter Buttes moved to 2-0 in the tournament with a victory over Live Oak on Sunday night.

Michael Boomgaarden went 4 for 4 and scored twice, and Zack Ellsworth finished 3 for 3 with two runs scored to provide the offense for Sutter Buttes.

Peach Bowl 15, North Yuba 0

Bradly Hunter 2 for 2 with a grand slam and seven RBIs and Anthony Piegaro went 2 for 4 with a grand slam and four RBIs to lead Peach Bowl to a second-round win over North Yuba on Sunday.

Bryce Rogers went 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Nick Ali connected for a two-run homer for Peach Bowl, which improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Piegaro also struck out five over three no-hit innings and Tim Yeager pitched a scoreless fourth with one strikeout for Peach Bowl.

JUNIOR BASEBALL

Wheatland 10, Kelseyville 0

Zachary Boley went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and Camron Butler and Jared Shumway added two hits apiece as Wheatland opened the tournament with a shutout win over Kelseyville at Marysville High School on Friday.

John Scuggs drove in a pair of runs and combined with Colby Milligan for a no-hitter in the win for Wheatland.

Marysville 14, Peach Bowl 9

Logan Wurm finished 3 for 4 with six RBIs and Seth Echevarria and Riley Tepellez both went 3 for 4 with two RBIs to lead host Marysville past Peach Bowl on Saturday.

Thomas Kennedy drove in a pair of runs and David Duncan, Chulo Rodriguez and Parker Sanchez added two hits apiece for Marysville.

Steven Thomas went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Zach Wells was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Zach Coul drove in a pair of runs to lead the way for Peach Bowl.

Colusa 10, Westshore 9

Garrett Hamilton went 2 for 3 and scored three runs, Shane Saso finished with two RBIs and Colusa scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to slip past Westshore on Sunday.

Wheatland 22, Sutter Area 11

Zachary Bodey finished 4 for 6 with two RBIs and Noah Bugayong went 2 for 3 with four RBIs to help power Wheatland past Sutter Area on Sunday.

John Scuggs went 3 for 6 with three RBIs, Camron Butler was 2 for 6 and scored four runs, Christian Rodriguez added two hits and Colby Milligan finished with a pair of RBIs in the win for Wheatland.

Tyler Chambers was 2 for 4 with four RBIs and Austin Greer drove in a pair of runs to lead the way for Sutter Area.
