PREP ROUNDUP: Ward powers Lindhurst past Live Oak
The Lindhurst High boys basketball team topped Live Oak 55-42 on the road thanks to six 3-pointers by Devin Ward, who finished with 20 points on Wednesday.
Lindhurst improved to 12-5, while Live Oak slipped to 7-5.
The Lions were led by Jasnit Mahal, who finished with 17 points, while Aaron Pamma chipped in seven points.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Colusa 59, Gridley 57
It was a bit of a scare, but the RedHawks will open Sacramento Valley League play tonight fresh off a thrilling win over the Bulldogs.
Colusa ended its nonconference schedule 12-2 courtesy of a double-double from Katie Mobley, who scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
The RedHawks open SVL action against Pierce tonight.
Mattie Myers scored 14 points with five rebounds, Cheyenne Rogers scored 15 points with eight rebounds and Paige Townzen and Emily Mobley each added five points for Colusa.
Wheatland 56, Lindhurst 33
Arianna Neuenkirk scored 20 points, Pennelope Zamora added 17 more and the Pirates rolled the Blazers.
Kaleigh Hulett added nine points for Wheatland (4-11), which closes out its nonleague schedule Friday at Hamilton. Butte View League play begins Tuesday against Sutter.
Mirian Corona led Lindhurst (0-11) with 20 points.
Marysville 63, Biggs 48
Holly Tarr drained 28 points, Rosa Gonzalez scored 12 and Paola Sotelo chipped in 11 as the Lady Indians picked up a big victory over the Wolverines on the road.
With the win, Marysville improved to 10-6. Baylee Yuponce led Biggs with 19 points.
Hayfork 30, Maxwell 22
Ashley Azevedo scored 11 points and Lauren LaGrande had six, but the Panthers (7-6, 1-2) dropped their Mountain Valley League game to Hayfork at home.
WRESTLING
Wheatland 74, Willows 0
The Honkers forfeited seven matches and the Pirates (11-4) took care of the rest of their bouts in a nonleague dual meet.
Junior 145-pounder Alex Luttrell picked up a victory by pin as did Kalan Hastey (160) and Brandon Cinco (220).
Alex Lopez (120) and Mikey Hawkins (152) won by major decision, while Austin Shinn (126) and Taylor DeLozier (170) also posted victories for Wheatland.
Natomas 52, Yuba City 25
Freshman Eric Scheiber picked up a big win for the Honkers, but it wasn't enough in Sacramento against the Nighthawks as the Honkers dropped the Tri-County Conference dual meet.
Spencer Malugani (132) had a victory by pin for Yuba City.
JV BOYS BASKETBALL
Lindhurst 43, Live Oak 24
Touyu Xiong and Angel Sanchez each scored 12 points to help the Blazers roll Live Oak on the road.
Live Oak (1-9) was led by Tony Arellano's seven points.
JV GIRLS BASKETBALL
Biggs 34, Marysville 24
The Lady Indians came up short on the road despite Tika Herrera's 11 points.
Gridley 57, Colusa 29
The Lady Bulldogs rolled the RedHawks at home.
Colusa (3-10) was led by Sally Loeza's 13 points and Taylor Davies' six.
