PREP ROUNDUP: Y.C.'s Estrada plays well in Sac
Freshman Connor Estrada shot a 37 to lead all competitors, but the Yuba City High golf team dropped a nonconference match to Elk Grove 216-226 at Wildhawk Golf Club in Sacramento.
Estrada led the Honkers (0-4), who collectively shot their lowest team score of the season.
Gus Wiezorek shot a 42, Riley Horan carded a 46 and Thomas Bishop shot a 50. Taylor Barrow added a 51 for Yuba City.
TRACK AND FIELD
Honkers compete at Pirate Classic
The Yuba City track and field squad competed at the Wheatland Pirate Classic last Friday with several Honkers putting up impressive performances.
Junior Louis Mowers took first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.38 seconds. He also placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 38 feet, 3 inches.
Mowers took third in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.70). He teamed with Jo an Fernandez, Ralphie Lara and Tyler Mosley to win the 1,600-meter relay (3:46.97).
Jose Guzman placed first in the 1,600-meter run (4:47) and the 800 (2:12).
Junior Nathan Gilming placed second in the long jump (18-6.5) and third in the 100-meter dash (11.76).
Lara, Gilming, Greg Pugh and Tyler Mosley won the 400-meter relay in 45.58 seconds.
Pugh placed third in the 200 (24.12). Davis Harper took second in the shot put (45-10) and Fernandez placed second in the 3200 (10:36).
On the girls' side, sophomore Kate Aldridge finished third in the 1,600 (5:56) and Holly McAlister took third in the 3,200 (13:31).
Harpreet Kaur placed third in the 400 and she teamed with Aldridge, Tiffany Friend and Raeann Magill to place second in the 1,600-meter relay (5:18).
JV GOLF
Ponderosa 255, River Valley 270
Kyle Gash led the Falcons (0-2) with a 44 and James McBride carded a 48 at Bass Lake Golf Course in Rescue.
R.V. played the front nine holes of the El Dorado County course.
