LOCAL ROUNDUP: Area wrestlers moving on to Masters
Yuba softball drops doubleheader
Wrestlers from Sutter High and Wheatland competed at the Northern Section Division II Championships in Orland on Saturday and several grapplers moved on to Friday's Masters Meet in Redding.
The Huskies led the local squads by taking third as a team and will send 12 of their 14 wrestlers on to Masters.
Hunter Minton led Sutter by taking first in the 126-pound division.
Mike Thompson (152), Trevor Holt (220) and Reid Melani (heavyweight) each took second, while Micah Cervantes (122), Alex Ingram (132), Josh Maier (170), Chase Gildea (182) and Danny Bogert (195) all placed third.
Riley Vickner (147) and Thomas Sakurada (160) both took fourth and Ibrahim Mohsen (138) placed sixth.
Wheatland will send 11 of their 14 wrestlers to Redding next weekend.
Leading the charge for the Pirates were senior Tyler Larcom (197) and junior Alex Luttrell (140). Larcom took first in his division, while Luttrell placed second.
Diaz moves on for Honkers
Five members of the Yuba City wrestling team made it to the second day of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III tournament in Benicia on Saturday, yet only one is headed to Masters .
Christian Diaz (285) booked his ticket to Stockton on Thursday by placing third in his bracket. He will compete for a chance at the state tournament.
Joining Diaz in Stockton will be River Valley's Cody Sapp (160), who finished 3-1 on Saturday.
Conner Wick (195) and Jordan Davis (182) both placed fifth with records of 4-2.

River Valley High product Rachel Quinn pitched seven strong innings for the 49ers, but the Seahawks won the first game of a doubleheader in the bottom of the seventh inning with a walk-off double.
Quinn struck out four batters, yet the one batter she walked came around to score in the seventh.
Robin Lowery and Ashley Demara both finished 2 for 3 for the 49ers.
In game two, the Niners only amassed four hits in support of Quinn who went the distance. Her defense also made five errors behind her.
Morgan Thome knocked in the 49ers' only run.
Yuba (5-8) will host a doubleheader on Tuesday with Shasta and Sierra.
