PREP BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS: Live Oak pulls off upset

It's not just the boys soccer team celebrating at Live Oak High.

The Lions' girls basketball team pulled off the upset up at Shasta Lake on Tuesday night, coming away with a 68-64 victory over No. 7 Central Valley in the first round of the Northern Section Division IV playoffs.

The No. 10-seeded Lions (17-8) came from behind to pick up the win led by Amyah Clark's 31 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Senior Paulina Heredia scored 17 to go with seven rebounds and Anijah Clark had a double-double with 12 points, 10 boards and three steals.

Andrea Ruiz dished out six assists for the Lions, who will travel to No. 2 Anderson on Thursday. Corning 49, Sutter 35

Erika Larsen's double-double wasn't enough as the No. 5 Huskies were knocked off by the No. 12 Cardinals at home.

Larsen scored 10 points and pulled down 19 rebounds to go with seven blocks.

Destiny Stevenson, Jaelyn Hoffman and Shelby Hill all scored seven points apiece for Sutter (11-15).

DIVISION V

Colusa 53, Los Molinos 38

Cheyenne Rogers scored 16 points to go with 16 rebounds and the No. 3 RedHawks cruised in the first round of postseason action at home.

Mattie Myers scored 12 points and Emily Mobley added eight points with 12 rebounds.

Colusa (19-6) will host No. 11 Fall River on Thursday night in second-round action.

Modoc 46, East Nicolaus 28

Katie Michel scored 11 points and Mikayla Rolufs added eight but the No. 4. Spartans (20-7) were knocked off by the No. 13 Braves at home.

Durham 50, Biggs 33

The No. 5-seeded Wolverines were upset at home by No. 12 Durham of the Sacramento Valley League.

Darci Roles scored a team-high 15 points for Biggs (17-9) and Maribel Garcia chipped in with 11 points. Baylee Yuponce added six points.

SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION

DIVISION II

El Camino 81, River Valley 46

The Falcons' best season in program history ended abruptly in a rout as the No. 2 Eagles defeated R.V. in Sacramento.

Klarissa Gonzalez led the Falcons with 15 points, Kiana Pedraza scored seven and Aleqse Hawkins added six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

NORTHERN SECTION

DIVISION VI

Maxwell 64, Butte Valley 63

George Barajas scored a team-high 17 points and the No. 7-seeded Panthers defended their home court with a victory over the No. 10 Bulldogs.

Bryce Perry and Zach Troughton each put up 15 points and Riley de Wit added 12 for the Panthers (10-17).

Barajas had a double-double for the Panthers with 11 rebounds and he also had five steals and seven assists.

Maxwell travels to No. 2 Paradise Adventist on Thursday.
