Yuba volleyball improves to 5-0

The Yuba College volleyball team improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season after winning a pair of matches at the Lassen College Classic in Susanville on Friday.

The 49ers took first in the round-robin tournament without dropping a set, sweeping both of their matches against Cosumnes River College and host Lassen

Yuba opened the day with a 25-19, 25-13, 25-18 win over Cosumnes and followed it up with a straight-set 25-17, 25-11, 25-18 victory over the home team.

Yuba City High product Katie Reiland had 20 kills and seven blocks and Sutter grad Brenna McDonald had 22 kills and a pair of blocks to lead Yuba at the net.

Freshman Angela DeHaan (Sutter High) added 15 kills, nine aces and three digs, Emily Toledo (East Nicolaus) had six kills, Shaila Gidel (Sutter) had four kills and 15 digs and Katie Olson (Sutter) tallied four kills and five digs.

Sutter's Sam Foster posted 57 assists and five digs, and sister Allison Foster finished with six digs and two kills for Yuba.

The 49ers will play their first home game at 6 p.m. on Friday against Southwestern Oregon.
