Four locals place at state meet
Four local wrestlers earned medals at the California Junior College State Championships in Santa Rosa over the weekend.
Competing for Sierra College, former River Valley High standout Jesus Chavez led the local contingent by finishing second in the state in the 197-pound weight division.
The setback in the final was the only loss of the season for Chavez, who finished third in the state at 189 pounds during his senior year at River Valley in 2009
His older brother and teammate, Jairo Chavez, placed sixth at 184 pounds. He is a 2007 graduate of Yuba City High.
Lindhurst High alum Anthony Vega of Sacramento City College took fifth at 141 pounds at the meet. Vega ended his season with a record of 27-8.
Also placing was Sutter High graduate Timmy Nevarez, who was sixth at 149 pounds while wrestling for Sacramento City.
Sac City finished second as a team, while Sierra took fourth.

Lindhurst fares well in Stockton
The Lindhurst High wrestling team competed at the two-day Bear Creek Invitational in Stockton over the weekend.
Friday was an individual tournament and the Blazers had two grapplers place with Christian George taking second in the 220-pound division and John Nichols placing fourth at 170 pounds.
On Saturday, Lindhurst went 2-2 at the team portion of the tournament after beating Edison 67-16 and Mira Loma 39-33.
George, Nichols and Brandon Masen (195) each went 3-1, while heavyweight Robert Craddic went 2-1 for the day.
On the girls side of the tournament, the Blazers were led by Teasia Lizama (132), Ashlie Johnson (146), Fabby Perez (152) and Jamie Mahoney (165), each of whom took first place with perfect 4-0 records.
Kylie Taylor (98) and Ashley Taylor (138) both went 3-1 to take second.
JV WRESTLING
Sutter competes at Red Bluff tourney
Sutter High's Jace Heryford (98) and Chris Bailey (126) each took first at the Red Bluff JV tournament on Saturday.
Edgar Quintana (113), Zachary Clingan (120), Jacob Potts (132) and Tyler Chambers (138) each took third for the Huskies.
Colusa's Erick Mendez (132) and Sebastian Medina (160) both took third for Colusa.
Three go undefeated for R.V.
River Valley's Karm Saran (184) rolled to a 4-0 record and Chris Rutherford (128) and Chance Perez (134) both went 2-0 at the Natomas Nighthawk Duals on Saturday in Sacramento.
