Fireworks for Gold Sox

The fireworks were on display during and following Tuesday's night's Horizon Air Summer Series baseball game at Appeal-Democrat Park.

The Marysville Gold Sox jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings and ended up disposing of the California Glory of Lodi 8-4.

The 3,325 fans in attendance were treated to a Kyle Davis home run, four dominant innings by local pitcher Kenton Bevacqua (2-0) and the second of four Fireworks Nights following the game.

After the first three weeks of the season, Davis was batting over .500 and leading the club in almost every offensive category. Since then he's batted around .200 over his last 50 at-bats.

However, he broke the slump in a big way with the blast to left field. He also drove in a run with a single.

Johnny Rubino recorded an RBI single, while three other Gold Sox runners were walked during the third inning.

All together, the Gold Sox recorded eight hits and five errors, three of which came in the ninth, while the Glory were held to just five hits.

With the victory, the Gold Sox improve to 21-6 overall and 19-6 in Horizon Air Summer Series play. They sit 11⁄2 games above the Humboldt Crabs in the McCullough Division.

The Gold Sox will host the Glory Thursday and Friday before hosting the San Luis Obispo Rattlers on Saturday and Sunday.

Paul Moeller is scheduled to get the start Thursday.
