PREP ROUNDUP: Honkers, Indians, Blazers cruise
The Yuba City High softball team had an easy time against Sacramento on Wednesday as Andrea Hazel blasted two home runs to lead the Honkers to a 16-1 victory at home.
Hazel and Jordan Thompson each went 3 for 4 with a double, while Shelby Tousch added a home run.
Sophomore Jostyn Bebout pitched four of the five innings and struck out nine batters in the process for Yuba City (3-2-1).
Marysville 9, Dixon 1
Eight batters recorded at least one hit and one RBI and the Lady Indians rolled Dixon in their Golden Empire League opener at Abby Field.
Jocelyn Talosig went 3 for 4 and drove in two runs, Tressa Arostegui went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Ashten Welch struck out 13 batters and allowed just four hits for Marysville (3-0, 1-0).
Lindhurst 12, Capital Christian 0
Kristan Montgomery continued her hot start from the circle and the plate, and the Lady Blazers cruised past Capital Christian in their GEL opener in Sacramento.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
After tossing a perfect game last week, Montgomery was a hit batter shy of pitching another perfect game on Wednesday. She struck out 11 batters and allowed just the sole baserunner after pitching inside to a batter.
She also went 4 for 4 with three doubles, a triple and three RBIs.
Deja Hawkins and Keianna Hostetler both went 2 for 2 and combined for a double, triple and three RBIs for the Blazers (3-2, 1-0).
Winters 7, East Nicolaus 2
The Lady Spartans recorded four errors and dropped to 0-5 on the year after falling on the road to Winters.
Amanda Taylor struck out eight batters and hit a two-RBI double to lead East Nicolaus.
GIRLS SOCCER
River Valley 3, Lindhurst 1
The Falcons bounced back from a 1-0 halftime deficit by scoring three goals in the second half to top the Blazers in a nonleague match in Olivehurst.
Kathleen Lundberg, Lexi Aguilar and Heather Summers each scored goals for River Valley, which improved to 2-6-2 with the victory. Bree McKenzie, Princessa Ceja and Ellie Tamez recorded the assists.
Andria Anderson scored the lone goal for Lindhurst, which dropped to 1-3 overall, while Maggie Avila and Ellie Yang were credited with top defensive performances.
CO-ED TENNIS
Marysville 7, Dixon 2
Randy Valencia picked up a 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 win in boys singles and Annie Lin (6-3, 6-2) and Debbie Lor (6-3, 6-2) both won girls singles matches to lead the Indians to a victory over the Rams in their GEL opener at home.
Jim Vang and Troy Carpenter (6-2, 0-6, 10-3) teamed up for a victory in boys doubles, and Courtney Ngai and Michelle Ngai (6-2, 6-0) and Sara Eckardt and Myers Lor (6-1, 6-1) cruised to wins in girls doubles.
Jacob Fisher and Lucy Murillo also joined forces to earn a 6-3, 6-4 victory in mixed doubles for the Indians (1-2, 1-0).
Lindhurst 8, Capital Christian 1
Wilson Lee (6-1, 6-0) and Vong Yang (6-1, 6-0) both cruised to boys singles victories, Mai K. Xiong won her girls singles match 6-1, 6-4, and the Blazers won their GEL opener by beating the Cougars in Sacramento.
In boys doubles, Lindhurst received wins from the teams of Aaron Lee and Po Her (6-1, 6-4) and Soloman Her and Chris Yang (6-0, 6-3). Jenny Vang and Judy Yang (6-3, 6-4) and Mai M. Xiong and Shoua Yang (7-6, 7-5) won in girls doubles and Andrew Guanzon and Marisa Vang (6-1, 6-3) were victorious in mixed doubles for the Blazers.

Whitney 208, River Valley 248
Will Jow and Lucas Vaughn each carded a 44, but the Falcons were topped at Coyote Run by Whitney of Roseville.
JV SOFTBALL
Marysville 14, Dixon 3
Haley Williamson went 2 for 3 with a double and five RBIs and Mikayla Anderson struck out nine in five innings of work in the circle to lead the Indians to a GEL win over the Rams at home.

Ajza Matta smacked a triple and Brandy Gilliam hit a double in the win for Marysville (2-1, 1-0).
Wheatland 18, Live Oak 1
Hannah Howard went 3 for 4 while throwing a five-inning no-hitter and Devinn Partain finished 3 for 5 to lead the Pirates (1-0) to a win in their season opener.
