LITTLE LEAGUE: Sutter Area majors advance to title game
The Sutter Area major softball all-star team continued its run towards the District 2 title after beating Sutter Buttes 14-4 in a battle of unbeatens at Peach Bowl Little League Park in Yuba City on Thursday night.
Sam Anderson went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, Claire Swartz was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Julia Tarke finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and scored a run in the victory for Sutter Area, which advanced to the championship round with the win.
Lexi Delozier went 2 for 2 and scored twice, Emily Smoot smacked a double, and Sydnee Condrey and Katie Anderson both added RBI singles in the win.
Phoebe Topete went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored and Monique Villicencio doubled to provide the offense for Sutter Buttes.
Sutter Area can wrap up the title with a win on Sunday against an opponent yet to be determined.
Marysville 17, Wheatland 11
Marysville trailed 10-2 late before erupting for 15 runs over the final two innings to pick up a come-from-behind victory over Wheatland on Thursday night.
Sophia Orozco led the way for Marysville by going 2 for 5 with a double and six RBIs. Annie Rollins went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and scored twice, and Heather Harness and Colbie Jacobs hit a double each in the victory.
Rollins also struck out seven batters to earn the win in the circle.
Bella Schmidt went 3 for 4 and scored twice, Kiana Flores was 2 for 5 with a pair of RBIs, and Gabrielle Webb and Chloe Jones drove in three runs each to provide the offense for Wheatland, which was eliminated from the tournament with the loss.
