PREP ROUNDUP: Yuba City matmen place fifth at Lincoln invite
Sutter takes fourth at Windsor tourney
The Yuba City High wrestling team had a strong showing on Saturday, taking fifth at the 25-team Mark Fuller Invitational in Lincoln.
Leading the way for the Honkers was senior Julian Saavedra, who placed second in the 170-pound division.
Also faring well for Yuba City was Jeff Thornton (4th, 132), Gavin Benbow (5th, 138), Shannon Casaulong (5th, 152) and Diego Herrejon (5th, 182).
Brandon Pierce (120) took sixth and John Simeroth (195) and Christian Diaz (heavyweight) both placed seventh.
Top finishers for River Vallley included Timmy Webb (4th, 152), Jordan Davis (4th, 182), Logan Morace (5th, 170) and Chris Davis (5th, heavyweight).
Five Wheatland grapplers placed at the tournament as well.
Junior Alex Luttrell (145) was the Pirates' top performer with a second-place showing.
Alex Lopez (3rd, 120), Fidel Gomez (6th, 106), Mikey Hawkins (6th, 152) and Taylor DeLozier (6th, 170) rounded out a solid day for Wheatland.
Huskies finish fourth in Windsor
The Sutter wrestling team saw strong performances from eight grapplers to take fourth at the 40-team King of the Mat Tournament in Windsor on Saturday.
Hunter Minton led the charge for the Huskies by taking first place in the 132-pound weight class. Zach Bell-Mathews (126) was second and Julian Kim (106) and Alex Ingram (138) both placed third.
Also placing for Sutter was Mike Thompson (6th, 160), Chase Gildea (6th, 182), Thomas Sakurada (7th, 170) and Riley Vickner (8th, 152).
JV WRESTLING
Three Huskies take first in Chico
Sutter's Garrett Fulton (126), Chase Miles (132) and Tyler Luna (182) each went undefeated to take first place at the North State Invitational JV Tournament at Pleasant Valley High in Chico.
Also placing for the Huskies were Aiden Lang (3rd, 170), Jace Heryford (5th, 106), Tyler Chambers (5th, 138) and Robert Snow (5th, 160).
Colusa's Erick Mendez (132) took fifth.
